We always hit Sauvie Island for a spin when we're in PDX. There's a nice 12-mile loop, plus out and backs you can do from that. The traffic is generally light and at a decent rate of speed. It is, of course, absolutely flat. There's a great parking spot just off the bridge, and a store for sandwiches, etc., nearby. Also along the route are several U-pick places, a craft store that sells local jams and jellies, and, in late August, plenty of marionberries along the sides of the road.
