One of my favorite parts about living in Portland in the summer is the perfect weather and easy access to a beautiful drive across this farm island, and at the end, an awesome long stretching sandy beach. if you pass the general area, there is the Nude area, which I absolutely LOVE how friendly, kind and comfortable and pleasant it always is. float around on the river in a raft or meet people docking with their boats, or just sunbathe, then wade into the gradual sandy bottom of the river to cool off for a nice quick swim, then back up on shore for some acoustic guitar and mancala or a good read. some years, I am here several days a week, and always know when its warm out when I wake up and the sky is blue... its Sauvie time.

Worth a trip to see. Pay your fee. Roads are narrow so watch out for bikes.

Its a special place 20 minutes away from the city that is a delight in fall, spring and definitely summer. Tons of birds, fruit farms, visit Krugers and Cistus Nursery

Sauvie has two wonderful farm shops to get caramel apples, homemade jams, etc in and the drive around the island is beautiful.
