“Identity Crisis, But Really Good Food.”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

The two of us showed up on Monday afternoon, about 2pm. There were only two or three tables occupied inside and about the same outside. We opted for outside and our drink orders were taken immediately. If you like great beer, this is a place you HAVE to check out. The Crab Dip sounded good as an appetizer so we placed our order for that, a prime rib French Dip and an order of Cod and Chips. Everything was very good including the service. Figure on an average of 10 bucks or so a piece, add a beer for 5 bucks and we spent about $50.00. Some folks know this place as "MacTarnahan's Taproom", but a more accurate name would be Portland Brewing Company Taproom, Pyramid Breweries....or something like that. Hey, whatever the name, I recommend it for really good food and beer...

“Great place for rehearsal dinner”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

We had our rehearsal dinner here a few years ago and the room they put our group in was very nice, away from the rest of the restaurant but not completely isolated. The food was very good and the service was great. Would plan another group dinner here again!

“Portland come through!”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Having never visited Oregon I was lucky to get invited to lunch at MacTarnahan's Taproom. Walking into the restaurant you are overcome with the tantalizing smell of the smoker outside, and the wonderful aroma of food inside. I ordered the roast beef au jus and it was awesome. They make their own beer on site and as I don’t drink I cannot say, but the others in my party loved it. Good value and a great spot for a tasty lunch.

“It changes but stays the same”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

This Pyramid Brewing establishment has an identity crisis. At times it wants to be part of the Pyramid/Majic Hat empire. At other times it wants to revert back to the local Portland Brewing it was 25 years ago. Right now it leans closer to the latter, but independent it's not. However, through all that time, it has been a dependable spot for good pub food plus. It's a nice space, perhaps the best dining room/patio/bar complex of all the city's brewpubs. The food on the menu is almost always well-prepared and tasty. The beers are OK, presented in two categories: Pyramid or Portland Brewing. The Pyramid selections tend to be 10 variations on the same wheat beer theme. The Portland Brewing throwback selections tend to be the more varied in style. During good weather the outdoor patio is a great place to bring a crowd. There are daily specials. On Wednesdays, a receipt from the taproom gets you 20% off cases and kegs off the dock around the corner, which is a nice perk.

“Good outdoor seating& happy hour”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We sat outside recently for happy hour. The food was reasonably priced. The service was good-well done: friendly & efficient. I had a bean burger(vegetarian) my companion had chicken tacos. The beer & wine were good-of course!
There were quite a few people outside, but it wasn't loud and we didn't feel cramped.
I will be back as it was just about exactly what you want for happy hour.
