We visited while in Portland visiting family. A group of us went for dinner. The mole brisket Arepas were amazing... I would go back just for those. The masa fritas appetizer was also incredible, although we should have ordered an additional side of guasacaca (their version of guacamole).

You order at the counter downstairs, are given a #, and seat yourself. We sat on the upstairs back patio. Our food was served quickly. The only disappointment was my husband's Teote Salad. For $8, we were expecting a larger salad... it was definitely more a starter salad size versus a meal size. Otherwise, we would go back just for the food. Yum!

El Diablo is El Diab-Whoa that's good. Do yourself a favor and get the fried plantains while you're at it. This place is nails & very affordable.

We found this place when searching for a World Cup final viewing venue which wasnt crowded. They had two screens out the back patio area, but not the staff (or the on tap drinks) to back it up. However, the food and normal service is excellent. Great value, interesting South American food at a good price. Margaritas good, on tap cide and beer also. Definitely recommended. Often a line at peak times but moves quickly (unless theres a WC final on!).

I'm a half-breed who's eaten many a south-of-the-border meals, but this was miles above the rest. We lead in with the passion fruit "pie"-- a creamy cinnamon hunk of goodness-- and it only got better from there. The 4 of us tried 5 different entree dishes, and they were all outstanding. The El Diablo name is misleading as this dish was not overly spicy; Just Great! I'm not usually prone to raving about salads, but the salad with pumpkin seed dressing was my second favorite thing on the table. Others at our table had differing opinions but everyone (excepting the 13 old unsophisticated palate) was very happy. Can't wait to go back & try the other dishes we missed.
Note: The margaritas are unlike any margs you've had before. Safer to go with an agua frescos with rum or tequila instead.

Went for dinner on a weeknight and had our order taken quickly at the counter. Being first-time visitors, we bypassed the small plates and stews and ordered chicken and pork plates served with beans, rice, salad, fried plantains, verde sauce, plantain sauce, bico and buttered arepas. A delicious alternative to the usual Mexican.
