“I love this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

I love this place! We called to reserve space for 15 for my birthday yesterday and then when we got to the Hawthorne shop, it turns out we had called the other store (Corbett), so they were not expecting us. They sorted it out for us and served us amazing fried fish and cocktails. A complimentary slice of the rum torte was even offered for my celebration. A good time was had by all because of their efforts. I have been eating here for years of course and highly recommend it!

“Gluten Free choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

Excellent fish dinner that is totally gluten free. We have gluten allergies in our family, so this restaurant has many choices of fish and French fries that are gluten free. The dinner was very good, I chose the catfish, which was moist and tender. The coating has a little southern spice to it, but it was moderately hot. Normal prices, and a good atmosphere for talking.

“Wonderful Seafood!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

This is a little seafood restaurant located in a neighborhood a few blocks off SW Macadam in the South Waterfront area of Portland, OR. The fried oysters are fabulous. Some of the tastiest oysters I have ever had. The soups are also very very good . They taste like they are homemade. The only odd thing about this restaurant is that there is lots of Green Bay Packers stuff hanging all over the place. It does seem odd in Portland, Oregon. :-)

“Best "Gluten Free" restaurant in town!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

The Corbett fish House (and its sister, Hawthorne Fish House) is a great place to eat out for someone who is celiac or gluten intolerant! You can dine at these two fine restaurants without worrying about cross contamination from other foods. And, their food is very, very good. I ordered the cod fish and chips and the cod was simply dusted with rice flour and deep fried;however, it was seemingly grease free. There was no taste of any type of oil from the fryer and the fish was crisp and firm without any degree of the bulky, breaded, mushy kind of finish so often found in fryer prepared battered fish. The fries are good, not great, but ordinary.
This is a busy place and the best service comes early in the evening. Our server as friendly and efficient. We will make these two restaurants regulars on our list of places to eat.

“In the middle of the neighborhood!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

Loved that this place was in the middle of a neighborhood. It was about a 20-30 minute wait at 6pm on a Friday night. Finally got a table near the bar. Service was ok. Ordered fish and chips. Lightly breaded fish nuggets, large enough to really taste the fish. Ii was so good. Everyone in our group was happy with the food.
I did however order a cocktail that the bartender didn't know how to make, I told him what was in it and he made it. It was good, not great, but good.
We will make it a plan to stop by again when we are in Portland.
