The former Berlin Inn was one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. A few months ago it underwent a renovation and when it reopened it was the Brooklyn House Restaurant serving "European comfort food." The personnel in the kitchen and wait staff are virtually the same as staffed the Berlin Inn. Several of them have gone together and purchased the business. They maintain the same commitment to fresh foods artfully presented (often garnished with edible flowers), gluten free offerings and cheerful, helpful, friendly service which were all the hallmarks of the Berlin Inn. One popular dish -- the Edelweiss sausages/kraut plate -- remains from the Berlin Inn's menu. Otherwise, there is a variety of European cuisines represented in the significantly smaller selection of interesting and well-executed offerings. Items are available in half and full plates. At the advice of our server we shared several smaller plates including the summer veggie pasta and the lamb dish. It made for a memorable meal. The desserts are not up to the standards or variety of the Berlin Inn, but still quite good. I wish the crew success and intend to continue eating there myself on a regular basis.
