“Awesome Place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

It was a busy night at the restaurant when my husband and I were there, so we opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was very engaging, to all customers, and helpful explaining all of the tap beers we were unfamiliar with. We ordered dinner at the bar, as several customers seemed to be doing, and the food was terrific! We had the Bridgeport IPA Beer Battered Fish & Chips and the Gulf Prawn and Bay Scallop Angel Hair Pasta (with brandied shrimp sauce!) and it was delicious! My husband travels to Portland frequently and always eats here - says it is always good. From the atmosphere, to the service, to the food - awesome!

“Good food, nice atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We were in Portland for dinner recently. We sort of stumbled into Jake's. We felt that we were not properly dressed (we were on vacation - think shorts and tank tops). The hostess said we were fine but we were more comfortable eating a light meal in the bar area.

The air conditioning was a bit much, but not intolerable. The place looks like the place to be for the after-work crowd. Maybe that's why we felt so underdressed.

I had a salmon salad and my husband had soup and a light salad. Everything, including the service was very good. If given the opportunity, we would have a more substantial meal there. This time, we would be more dressed for the evening.

“a bit over rated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

We got the pork chop & a fillet mignon. Both were very good & cooked almost perfect. The clam chowder was very good. While we enjoyed the food we did not feel it was worth what they charged. The presentation wasn't even nice. Our waitress was a bit condescending but she did get nicer as the meal progressed.

“Best biscuits and gravy ever!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

Not being an American I am not all that familiar with biscuits and gravy. Having said that, Jake's serves up amazing biscuits with a side of sausage gravy that was unbelievably delicious. Service very professional in this historic restaurant. Home made jams, great oatmeal, etc. Would definitely return.

“An Old Institution in Portland”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is now owned by McCormicks and Schmicks and is not the same place as it was. That said, our lunch was very good. The salmon Blue Plate was cooked to perfection and served piping hot. My husbands NW gumbo was a large spicy portion, enough for two. The service was attentive if not swift. Perfect for a leisurely lunch. We would go back.
