I had read a great deal about this historic place, and in a lot of respects, it lived up to its reputation. Excellent selection of local seafood (with the menu clearly indicating which catches were fresh). Excellent wine list, with some very nice by-the-glass selections, as well as quite a few local craft brews on draft.
Waitress was exceptionally friendly, and her recommendation of one of the daily specials (halibut) was on the mark.
Good but not great selection of West Coast oysters.
Now, the negative: I made a reservation well in advance for an early dinner on a Thursday evening. Showed up on time, one of the few in the place wearing a sport coat. With the dining room more than half empty, I was taken to the back of the room, in a tiny booth with a choice of either facing a wall or the wooden back of the booth.
I have found that a growing number of restaurants are discouraging single diners, and I can understand that on a busy weekend or holiday. But this was a Thursday and early.
Don't stick singles in a lousy table. (I was moved to a slightly better table after a complaint.) If you don't want singles, don't accept reservations for one.
