Strangely enough this place does not get nearly as much hype as it should...yes, it is pretty expensive BUT not anymore so than all the other big restaurants that get all the good reviews in PDX and don't serve food nearly as good as this one! The only reason it isn't a five star review is because the service was a bit spotty last night...perhaps the staff was disgruntled about having to work on Christmas eve...in any case, the food was AMAZING! Everything from the appetizers (had tostones con beef and chipotle calamari - the ginger lime sauce was out of this world), to the entrees (Portuguese-style sirloin and vaca frita), to the desserts (Coconut goodies and a chocolate souffle) was PERFECT. Mojitos were good although I would appreciate a more authentic sangria next time. Again, this is definitely one of the better places in the Pearl and in Portland. Dish out the money, you won't be disappointed.

This is a classy Mexican restaurant and you will not find your regular Mexican dishes here unless they have been fancied up! Also a great place just to hang and have cocktails.

First time in this establishment, went for happy hour. Good Mojito and excellent steak skewers though definitely overpriced. Very good caesar salad. Fish tacos were just okay. Atmosphere is not bad, sloooow service. They appear to need more servers during such a busy shift as happy hour.

Went here with several people for dinner, and enjoyed every bit of it! Our server was exceptionally knowledgeable and suggested we order several items off the tapas menu. Highlights of the menu was the guacamole prepared tableside, the bacon wrapped jalapeno "poppers", the carnitas atop corn cakes, and the delicious blood orange margarita I washed it all down with! I'd definitely love to go back one day and try the rest of their menu!

We were staying downtown Portland and looking for something out of the ordinary. Oba seemed to fit the bill. Three of us went for dinner. Very nice building with a cool vibe located in the Pearl District. Bar was busy. Restaurant was about half full. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and ordered wine from a reasonable quality / price wine list. Dinner began with Tacos Dorados that were excellent. A medium order included six and was reasonably priced at $14 considering it was enough for an entree. Entrees included the unique Butternut Squash Enchiladas and Vaca Frita, which was explained in detail by the waitress as marinated and pulled flank steak served on mashed potatoes with Corn Salsa. The Butternut Squash Enchiladas were described as served with a Walnut based sauce. In both cases, the dishes were good but not worth the price and not served exactly as described. In the case of the Butternut Squash Enchiladas, one would expect to be advised or to read in the description that these were going to be very spicy. Certainly the ingredients of Butternut Squash and Walnuts would not lead one to know this. These were extremely spicy as if someone had chosen to mix in too much Cayenne Pepper in the squash filling. My tastes prefer things very spicy, i.e. Hot Vindaloo's, Fresh Jalapeño, etc. but my wife ordered these and she does not care for overt spice. As for my dish, the Vaca Frita, it was served with so many fried onion strings on top that you could not find the dish itself. My first reaction was, what are they hiding? Upon eating I was struck with a lack of marinated taste and a plethora of red onions. As I don't care for strong onion flavor or texture, I was taken aback that again there was no explanation on the menu nor during the requested verbal description that raw onion was flash fried with the meat. Suffice to say that we were disappointed in the meal and felt that we could have found an alternative in a good restaurant city.
