After asking several locals where the best restaurant was, my group decided to try Henry's Tavern on 12th. The ambiance was much nicer than the name implies, with upbeat music playing in the background, nice lighting, and table arrangements that allow everyone at the table to see what's going on.
The food was excellent. The only problem was there was so much to choose from! The beer list alone was as long as many restaurant's wine lists. We chose Chicken Satay and spicy tuna rolls for appetizers and they were delicious. We all ordered different seafood dishes for dinner, although they had numerous non-seafood choices. All of the dishes were fresh and appealing. The scallops I had were fantastic with the most delicious sauce. The service was great. The waitress was very helpful with all of the questions we had about the menu.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

What's not to like? They have expensive and inexpensive, large and small and something for every palette. And if there is a better selection of beer on draft in this city, I haven't found it. You make a reservation and they seat you on time. The staff knows the menu and treat you like friends. I keep going back waiting for my first thing to complain about and it hasn't happened yet.

My favorite restaurant in Portland.

We walked around downtown Portland and were very impressed with the shopping and variety of restaurants. We noticed Henry's Tavern was jam packed with patrons, lined up out the door. We put our name down and waited the 20 minutes just walking around the block popping in and out of stores.

We walked in at our turn, and were amazed at the gorgeous interior. The windows and drapes were large and bold. The place was dark, but comfy. The restaurant was packed and obviously people were enjoying themselves.

We ordered specialty beers first thing. They have many to choose from. The server was excellent as she could describe each type of beer and what food it went with and how it tasted as compared to the other beers. They must do lots of taste testing themselves!

We then ordered our salads and main course. The ceasar salad was tasty and served with the leaves whole. Looked very cool.

I ordered the Orange Chicken for $10.95. It was so good, hard to describe. The chicken was crispy and tasty over a large bed of rice. There was so much chicken, there must have been three breasts on my plate. I could not even finish half of it and I was starved. All this food for $10.95 seems impossible. My husband ordered the Mongolian Beef (for $10.95) and once again, so much food and too good to be true. We tasted each others, it was so good.

We would have had dessert, but we were just too stuffed.

We are thinking of going through Portland again just to eat at Henry's Tavern. Our holiday route took us through Washington, Oregon, down to the California coast, Disneyland and San Diego. By far, Henry's was the best meal of the trip.

We have eaten at Henry's quite a bit and thoroughly enjoyed it each time! There is a large menu, which is quite diverse..yet each meal has always been served just right. That doesn't happen at many places! The staff are very professional, yet friendly. This is one place that we keep returning to and hope everyone enjoysit as much as we do!
