“Do do the Voodoo”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

This place is pretty cool, but it's basically like visiting the Space Needle (except you get a yummy doughnut from it). When you go (we both know you will), be prepared to stand in a pretty long line. For this reason, I'd recommend visiting in the Summer when it's warmer. As you wait in line, you can peruse the menu on Yelp or Foursquare. You'll want to do this, as you otherwise won't know the difference between a Miami Vice Berry and a Grape Ape. I also wish that everyone else would Yelp the menu, because it sure would help it move quicker! You also want to make sure that you have cash; it's all that they take. No worries if you don't have any, since they have an ATM in the store. Just good to know so that you can go get cash while someone holds your place in line. Don't be that guy and wait until it's time to pay. Keep it moving folks.

Back to the original statement, though, this is pretty much just a touristy thing to do. I can't imagine going on a regular basis. The line is way too long, and the doughnuts aren't "to die for" or anything. They're definitely cute, inventive, and taste good; price is pretty cheap as well. It's just not worth standing in line forever for. But if you're only in Portland once every six months, or if you have a Voodoo virgin in tow, then definitely go! The worst that can happen is you walk away with a maple bar with a strip of bacon on top. And that's not bad at all.

“Worth it (though not an hour wait)”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I live in Portland, so going to VooDoo is not unique, but you learn when to avoid the peak times (especially in this downtown location) (Hint to out of towners, there is a second VooDoo (VooDoo II), right across the river at about Sandy and NE15th. which almost always has shorter lines)
The new shop is definitely not as cool and unique as the old hole-in-the-wall place was, but the doughnuts are still the same.
As much hype as this place gets, they deserve it. They have doughnuts you just won't find anywhere else. I mean the have brought the bacon-maple bar mainstream (inducing copycats all over the country).

Avoid the weekends (super long lines outside) and you'll be golden.

“Holy doughnuts!”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

I had to try the amazing Voodoo offerings after seeing a line out the door in the pouring rain. Those are some dedicated Voodoo lovers. I returned in the afternoon on a weekday and there was no line. I got several different donuts and they were tasty. I didn't try anything crazy though, so I can't speak to their unique concoctions. I'll try it again when in Portland.

“Very Rich”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

We visited Voodoo with a friends of ours who was travel nursing and it was quite an experience. The 3 of us mad the perhaps unwise choice of getting a dozen donuts to try all the crazy variety. These donuts lasted unless a week because we could only eat a little at a time (even the two guys) as they were very rich. Definitely try out this local must-do place but you'll be happier if you pick 1 or 2!
