“Funky and vibrant reataurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

We found this restaurant on Easter Sunday 2013 at around 11am. It was very busy, being Easter Sunday and all, but after a short wait we were seated. Very funky vibe here. Kinda bohemian/earth child/hippie/new age. Really friendly servers too! My wife had waffles (yup, waffles) with fresh strawberries and whipped cream while I had fresh dungeness crabcakes benedict (eggs benedict on crabcakes). Delicious! The eggs were perfect and the crabcakes were very tasty. Also had a very tasty polenta. Will definitely visit again on our next trip.

“Chicken N' Waffles!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Absolutely, hands down, one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! The chicken tenders were spicy and juicy, the waffles had the pearlized sugar in them and were perfectly cooked and sweet, and the awesome sauce that comes with it, you only use a fork to be nice. You'll totally want to devour this deliciousness!

“This cafe (almost) has it goin’ on”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

While in Portland recently we stumbled upon Bread and Ink for dinner. The space has an eclectic feel to it - part diner, part waffle bar, part coffee shop - but that made it all the more interesting. On a Saturday night we were seated quickly and served promptly. We enjoyed some local beer, wine, appys, mains and a yummy chocolate dessert. Although none of the food or presentation was outstanding, it did the trick nicely. We felt the risotto was overpowered by rosemary but the humous and veggie plate and everything else quickly disappeared. Overall, slightly better than average.

“Unique Breakfast and Reasonable Prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

This restaurant is known for its "Waffle Window" which looked very busy but we went inside where we could sit down and enjoy some very flavorful and unique breakfast fare. I had the pancakes which were light and silky smooth with a cardamon syrup which is very good. The others had the fried chicken and waffle. The fried chicken is simultaneously crispy and moist and the waffles were perfectly caramelized on the outside with a light steamy freshness in the middle.

“Formerly The Hawthorne Cleaners”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

I was one of its first customers, 30 years later it's still a fave. Eclectic menu with surprises, fairly attentive service. You won't go broke but in the past couple years we've noticed a decline in the value/price ratio. Used to be able to doodle & write on the "tablepaper," whilst downing baskets of warm bread (hence Bread & Ink), but not now. It was unique, it's not now, but if you haven't been, what do you care? You'll still find great meals in a nice room.
