We had brunch here before going to the Keller Auditorium to see The Book of Mormon. Excellent service, beautiful table with a lovely view of the outdoor patio, and great bloody mary's. We tried the frittata, steak skewers, and eggs benedict with smoked pork loin. All were beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. Only a few blocks away from the Keller Auditorium, so we were able to park for the show, walk down for brunch, and then stroll back (slightly tipsy) in good time. Highly recommended!

P.S. Being tipsy to see The Book of Mormon is also highly recommended

Sword of Bruce visits Portland! The VQ has never disappointed. This trip was Christmas week 2012. Starting in the bar: If you like a real bar, you could just go here, have a drink and some duck confit spring rolls (see below). Everyone here is professional, friendly and very competent. Wood paneling, booths, window table and TV. You could just hang here.
But continue to the dining rooms in back - once again the staff is professional - very competent. We are partial to 'grownups' for wait staff - these are the best. Plus the wine list, the appetizers, the bread, all the best. DON'T MISS the duck confit spring rolls.
Our entrees this night were osso buco, and sunchoke ravioli with braised oxtail and spinach, and all was perfectly prepared and served, even to the lobster fork for the osso buco marrow. The bread was tasty and fresh, served with sweet butter.
So, in a word, make the trip, for lunch or dinner.

My wife and I have been here with family and friends a couple of times and we have had the same experience each time. The food is good, but not spectacular or anything. The beer selection is pretty great. I would have been open to a 4th star if the prices were more reasonable, but it seemed like we were paying more for a posh restaraunt than great food.

My first choice in Portland. Eclectic crowd, excellent bar and adjoining booths, nice dining area, the outside summer patio is very nice. A varying menu with many exotic dishes. Open kitchen, San Francisco feel to the place. Very good wait staff. In my opinion this place says "Portland".

The VQ is our restaurant of choice for any occasion. The food is consistently excellent, good quality ingredients cooked to perfection every time! I love their bacon wrapped dates and their signature chocolate souffle is a must for chocoholics! They have an extensive wine list which caters to every wallet. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and courteous, it's good to see so many 'lady' chefs at work!
The VQ is a lively yet intimate restaurant, along the lines of a French Bistro - not a restaurant that is swamped by families with young children ( and I haven't seen a television, thankfully) - it's more 30's and up. Whether you eat in the bar, on the outdoor patio or in the main restaurant you can't go wrong. They also have a small dining room in the cellar for a more private party.
Book ahead of time so you are not disappointed, this place fills up every night!
