Just picked this spot at random when walking around town. It looked fun from the outside and food smelled great at the door. Excellent Mexican food, large menu with many choices for each item including very large number of meat/sauce choices, great for sitting outside.

My wife and I had lunch here for our first time yesterday. We both had regular burritos; steak for her, pork chile verde for me and they were both quite good. They came with a side of chips and fresh salsa that were also not bad. I had a glass of horchata that lacked cinammon but was otherwise refreshing. The tortillas were prepared fresh. We ordered at the counter, sat ourselves, ate, bussed our table, and left satisfied in about a half an hour. If you're in the area and craving some Mexican food, Mayas is a good, safe, quick, bet.

Been coming here for years; I love that they have chicken in red, green or molé sauce. Three kinds of beans. Whole wheat tortillas on request. Even pupusas (from El Salvador, they are like thick corn tortillas stuffed with melted cheese and/or pork, served with a spicy cabbage slaw).

Excellent value; not about fancy ambience but they do have a nice upstairs dining area, and a bar!

This is a great place to bop by when you're downtown doing whatever and realize could go for a quick bite to eat. They have a great, authentic Mexican food menu (they even have tongue tacos), the service is fast and the food is fresh. Their salsa is to die for! PLUS, they have a full bar. You can eat inside at a table or counter looking out the window and in the summertime there's tables outside to hang and check out the passerbys. Super friendly people that remember their regular customers. They are always happy and have a smile on their faces! The other thing is that they stay open fairly late, even during the weekdays. We love the added touch of real plates, colorful Homer Laughlin Fiestaware. Make sure you check out this restaurant!

On day 8 of our annual vacation out of Dallas to cooler climes, we arrived at our downtown Portland hotel tired and hungry around 9pm. We asked if there was any place nearby for a quick, easy dinner. The bellman asked if spicy mexican was ok and suggested we try Maya's since it was just around the corner.

I got a carne asada burrito (watch out - it was literally big-as-your-face); my partner got a taco plate. We each grabbed a diet coke and water and headed outside to enjoy the evening, talk about our plans for our stay in Portland, and watch people walking by. A few minutes later, our food showed up.

All talking and watching ceased as we dived into our amazing dinner. We may have been salsa-deprived for 8 days, but this food was great!
