Description: Andina draws inspiration from the native culinary traditions of Peru, as well as from the contemporary cooking by some of Peru’s leading chefs. Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt, collaborates with Andina’s kitchen team to develop a menu that celebrates her family’s Andean roots, interweaving the ideas and techniques of both Criollo and Novo-Andean cuisines. The kitchen sources native and local ingredients to create dishes at once traditionally rooted and personally inspired. Founded in 2003, Andina emerged as one of the region’s leading Peruvian restaurants and continues to generate wide appeal within the food communities in and around Portland, and much further afield.

“Good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

I recently took my husband to dinner at Andina for his birthday. When making reservations two weeks in advance and settling for a less than optimal time I kind of expect that I will be seated at a decent table rather than right in the fray and nearly on top of my neighboring table. Fortunately the people in Portland are such genuinely friendly people the awkward arrangement was a minor inconvenience. As previously noted, the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. I ordered the scallops from the main menu - perfectly cooked and deliciously accompanied with mashed potatoes and a beet sauce. The crab cannelloni on the side was an unnecessary extra, the temperature and consistency didn't match the rest of the plate somehow. My husband very much enjoyed the rack of lamb, good flavor, cooked to the right temperature, and again beautifully presented.

Overall it was a lovely dinner, the cramped quarters and chaotic ambiance would likely encourage me to avoid this for intimate meals in the future however.

“#1? no”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

I have eaten at Andina before and I am sorry to say this latest experience was not at the same level.
First I was offered a glass that had a black speck in it and I was the one to have to point it out, rather than the waiter checking first..
Then we were brought the bread for the table: this was spongy, airy, cold and almost "wet" feeling. A very plain bread indeed.
I went on to a very well prepared and very tasty lamb shank, that was unfortunately masked and dulled by the excessive amount of garlic in everything around it, starting for a very garlic-tainted rice.
I must say, though, that the courtesy and manners of the personnel were still of high level and that counts a lot.

“It's a food landmark”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

This restaurant should also be on the top of things to so in Portland. It's a food experience, a landmark, an event.

I had no idea what Peruvian food is and still don't know exactly. It compares to nothing else but the best comparison would be some of the Spanish dishes I have had in Spain.

The menu is huge, almost overwhelming and I needed some help to find my way.

The service was very good, not a high class strict service, more friendly and very welcoming. Serving and helping you enjoy the place.

It's not inexpensive but well worth it.

“My favorite resturant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

It's gotten too popular. Make sure to make your reservations early. Love to go there for tapas. I love that Doris circulates among the tables and is so concerned about the quality of the food and the experience. The little tasing extras that often show up unexpected at your table never fail to add to the experience. The bar has a wide range of excellent drinks including the signature pisco sour.
