Description: Andina draws inspiration from the native culinary traditions of Peru, as well as from the contemporary cooking by some of Peru’s leading chefs. Owner Doris Rodriguez de Platt, collaborates with Andina’s kitchen team to develop a menu that celebrates her family’s Andean roots, interweaving the ideas and techniques of both Criollo and Novo-Andean cuisines. The kitchen sources native and local ingredients to create dishes at once traditionally rooted and personally inspired. Founded in 2003, Andina emerged as one of the region’s leading Peruvian restaurants and continues to generate wide appeal within the food communities in and around Portland, and much further afield.

“My favorite resturant”

It's gotten too popular. Make sure to make your reservations early. Love to go there for tapas. I love that Doris circulates among the tables and is so concerned about the quality of the food and the experience. The little tasing extras that often show up unexpected at your table never fail to add to the experience. The bar has a wide range of excellent drinks including the signature pisco sour.

“From the heart...”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The truly extraordinary is found not in the place but in the person. For Andina that person is Mama Doris. Doris Rodriguez de Platt and her family own Andina, but for Mama Doris you are not a customer but a guest in her home. She welcomes you not just into her home, but into her heart as she shares not just the exquisite flavors of the Andes, but the story of the food and the culture.

It is with joy that I take guests to Andina, set the menus aside and invite them to experience the evening as Andina delights us with the food and wine Mama Doris chooses to share with us from her heart.

“Great Peruvian food in the US”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

This may be the best restaurant in Portland, a city with many excellent restaurants. The Peruvian theme and food adds an exotic quality, and the presentation and quality are first rate. It's my first choice for a special occasion, and I take out-of-town guests there for a unique satisfying experience.

“Crowded but excellent”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

Andina is very popular, so it is a good idea to get a reservation or arrive early. When the restaurant is full (which it usually is) there is just enough room to squeeze between tables as you walk to your table. Once you get there however there's enough space to the sides, but your actual table is likely to be small in size. That makes a difference because Andina speclalizes in small plates; it's not literally a tapas bar but one will generally order a large number of small dishes, which will start crowding the small-size table.

Fortunately the wait staff is excellent and will come by frequently to take away empty plates and take your order for additional dishes. I would describe the food as Peruvian inspired, with a number of dishes which come with small dishes of highly flavorful (and sometimes hot) sauces. Andina also has a bar (which seems to be equally busy) which makes some rather exotic drinks; my friend had heard about one of their specialties and in her enthusiasm to order it didn't hear the waiter mention the habanero vodka. That drink turned out to be too hot for her but the waiter sympathetically replaced it with a non-spicy version. The wait staff is also good at describing the myriad of dishes which will often have sauces or ingredients unfamiliar to many diners. However every dish that I've had there has been at least good and usually better than good.

“Great Food”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

Luckily we got to the restaurant around 6PM. They gave us a table and said we would have to vacate it at 8:30 (but they would not rush us out). I can see why. . . the place was jammed on a Friday night by 7:30. GREAT FOOD!! All sorts of things to try. It is like a tapas restaurant only the portions are not too small. Four of us ordered several items and we shared them. Great flavors. I have never had Peruvian food and now we are looking for a Peruvian restaurant near Chicago. Definitely try this one.
