Based on Tripadvisor reviews and recommendations, we decided to have breakfast at the Bijou Cafe the first full day we were in Portland on vacation. A lot of different people seem to go there, from students to business people (and tourists).
The menu offers quite a bit of choices. We had a Mushroom & Cheddar omelette with potatoes and a lemon-poppyseed muffin as well as a Tofu scramble with a green salad. Everything tasted really good and provided a good start into the day. Also our waitress was very friendly and helpful (e.g paper bags are offered if you want to enjoy your muffin later).
The only (mildly) negative thing: the capuccino was a bit too strong for our tastes (it was more like a triple shot macchiato).

Our Hotel doorman suggested this place for breakfast and we really enjoyed it. Went back twice actually. The pancakes were amazing. As were the Omelets and the Brioche French Toast. And you must try the Apple Juice, heavenly!

In a city that has a lot of great places to eat you can never go wrong with eating at the Bijou. And, this is the only place where I've found Roast Beef Hash. To die for!

we went downtown to have breakfast at either Mothers or Bijou cafe. Half an hour wait on a Thursday morning at Mothers and 5 minutes at .Bijou. The menu at Bijou was a little more mainstream and 5 minutes was better than 30. Breakfast was good.I had french toast which was scrumptious and the coffee was good. I mean it is the northwest so presumably all coffee should be good but that has not been are uniform experience
