“Steak Tartar...a must have!”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Highly recommended...innovative, fresh, and elegant dining...love the half portion options. The steak tartar is among the best I've ever had. Superb service...excellent destination for special occasions.

“Not at their best”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

This place is a veritable Portland institution so we were keen to try. The fresh shucked oysters were rinsed of all salty liquor; they might as well have come from a jar. The charcuterie platter (at $50 for a large! was unseasoned, bland, and at wrong temperatures. (The rillette was warm and slimy, for example.) So disappointing. My steelhead salmon was sent back because it was raw inside (Northwest wild salmon is not like Atlantic, and prone to flukes, so avoid the raw stuff here!) The brought in bread was excellent, and I was able to taste Patricia Green pinot noir, so the evening wasn't a total waste. In the middle of the meal we were presented with a dish we didn't order, and when we protested the waiter replied "complements of the house." Minutes later it was whisked away by the maitre d'hotel. Alas, with 2 restaurants the chef/owner's attention is divided, and far from focused. And his back up staff apparently leaves him exposed when he is away.

“Fantastic food, romantic atmosphere”
Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

Paley's was one of three places my fiancée and I dined in Portland the weekend we got engaged, and Paley's was hands-down the best one.

The decor is classy but not overly formal, hip but not overly casual. Most of all, it was very romantic.

We were treated very well from the moment we walked in -- coats taken, seated in a romantic corner table. Our server was outstanding, striking the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving us space. The courses were paced well. The water was never less than 1/3 full (an accomplishment for how much water I drink). And very friendly and polite service.

The food is all local and organic. We had an excellent carrot soup, followed by field greens salad, then vegetable confit risotto and an incredible cut of beef in the Wagyu. All items were really top notch.

Dessert was a delicious chocolate torte with (edible) rose petals in honor of our celebration.

Must-eat venue with a date or significant other!

“Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

Not impressed. Over-priced. Unskilled staff. Pretentious. Long wait even with reservations. Had to order lemons for my water three times and had to order drinks twice before arrival. No vegetarian options. Small portions. Weird vibe honestly.

“Amazing flavours”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

As part of a progressive dinner... we went to Paley's for dessert. I had the Olive Oil Cake...The flavours were amazing. The cake, the ice cream...and the textures were unexpected and perfect. I'd love to go back and have dinner there.
