The six of us made a telephone reservation for noon. Upon arrival we were bluntly and rudely informed by the reception that the restaurant had been backed up since nine in the morning and we would have to wait. We were given seats in the coffee bar. After ten minutes or so the three small tables were tidied and menus were provided. We ordered. A few minutes later we were offered tables in the restaurant. Since we had already ordered and the tables had been set, we decided to decline the restaurant table. A bit after 1pm the food was served. It was very good in both quality and quantity.

The onion soup is the best, the hamburgers are made for two people to share. The service was awful, mostly because they didn't have enough staff to accommodate the mass of people

Heathman is a historic legend in Portland. The bar and its bar menu is creative and innovative- great drinks, good food and a really nice atmosphere for a quiet get together with friends. Particularly special for the Christmas holidays with a dramatic tree and decorations.

My wife and I ate at the Heathman before we attended a concert at the Oregon Symphony (right next door). We enjoyed some rare treats such as pork cheeks, sweetbreads and Alaskan razor clams. Everything was expertly prepared and presented. The waiter helped expedite the meal so we were in time for the concert.

My wife and I enjoy going out to high tea, and were surprised to find that the Heathman is one of the few places in Portland to offer one. We can be difficult restaurant customers as I am a vegetarian, and my wife is nearly vegan. I called ahead to see if we could be accomodated, and I was assured that would be no problem.
We arrived about 15 minutes early, and were given a nice comfortable place to sit while our table was being finalized. The ambiance and decor were lovely, and shortly after we were seated, our server came by. She was very freindly and double-checked that we had the special-request menu. When the tea trays arrived, she quickly described what each item was and if it differed from the standard menu. All the food was quite tasty, and the kitrchen did a great job with our meatless trays.
The tea options were good, and we were both able to find something we liked. Our server checked in with us several times to see how we were enjoying things and to top up our haot water. The room was fairly full, but we never felt rushed or ignored. And our extra food was boxed up for us to enjoy later.
The only reason this was not a 5-star review is that we have pretty high standards for our high tea, and while this was quite enjoyable, some of the others we've had were comparable in price and supplied a larger quantity and variety of foods.
Overall, though, very pleased and will go back.
