“Superb every time”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

We live in Portland as do our sons who attend graduate schools in this area. Frequently we go out to Sat or Sun breakfast and have become very familiar over time with their level of service. It is consistently outstanding.
Not only is the menu reflective of this area's bounty of fresh foods including berries, hazelnuts, crab, artisanal cheeses and etc and etc-- the preparation of "typical" breakfast foods is amazingly careful. The for sure winner here is the Eggs Benedict. This french trained chef and staff make their own hollandaise fresh and it shows. Lovely texture and color and flavor-- never the gloppy mess that many other breakfasts places call Hollandaise!
The wait staff is superb. Many of them have been there for years. When I used to do business meetings at lunch or dinner I would take clients and staff here and over the 20 plus years I have seen the same wait staff who still seem to be enthused about the art of service.
The atmosphere is always conducive to visiting as the tables are far enough apart one feels able to conduct a conversation that is relatively private.
When people new to town ask where to eat that is quintessential "Portland" in terms of ingredients and service I direct them here. What a gem, not to be missed... Go after 9 for breakfast when they have the brunch menu-- then you can have the eggs and such OR you can have a crab salad or even pasta-- the menu does change seasonally but some things like the eggs benedict are always on the menu. I even really wanted blueberry pancakes today which were not on the menu and the chef obliged by using a blueberry jam filling! ( since clearly in Jan there aren't any fresh ones).. nice touch

There are plenty of vegetarian options, and one of course can always have the most expensive crab or the less expensive other amazing options. They EVEN will halve the order for you-- since for me I literally cannot eat the three huge pancakes that come with an order.. so the price can be very reasonable for such great food.

Breakfast at the Heathman is a Portland must! The Eggs Benedict are to die for. Also, they have an amazing bartender that makes homemade Bloody Mary mix every morning - have one! Fresh garlic, Worcestershire, dill, etc... nothing like it!
