I landed late night on a Friday and needed food immediately after dropping my stuff off to the hotel. Saucebox was in walking distance and I’d read from other reviews that the food was pretty great. The other perk is that it’s open later than a lot of the other surrounding restaurants and bars which was necessary when requiring dinner at 1 a.m.

It’s decorated uniquely inside and has extremely friendly staff. We sat outside because it was pretty loud inside, which is fine but we were just wanting to be able to chat a little bit, there being two of us.

It was a bit disappointing that a few of the dishes we wanted to try they were out of, but then again we went pretty late. What we did try though was sooooo good.

They have an extensive drink list and I went with the kickboxer which I LOVED! House infused Thai chili vodka was in it which gives you a nice heat factor and there is just the right touch of sweetness added to it.

The mushroom steam bun was pretty good but my favorite I tried was the pad Thai. That dish is usually pretty decent but kind of sweeter—this one though was more on the savory side which made it absolutely delicious.

I've eaten here several times the last few years, and it's always an enjoyable meal. Great small plates and entrees. Korean ribs were very tasty, as were the crispy rolls. Sake menu a little limited for this genre restaurant. The bar area has good seating for a little more lively atmosphere.

Let’s start with the food, which was decent. Not bad, not amazing, decent. Our server, Reina (sp) was warm and at the same time efficient. A true professional. The same cannot be said about the hostess. Apparently we didn’t fit their demographic profile, so, despite having asked, we weren’t seated in the main restaurant portion, but relegated to a corner in the bar. “Officially” it was because the main restaurant was all booked. However, on OpenTable we could have booked a table for four every fifteen minutes through the end of the evening. And then there’s the old adage that a picture says a thousand words.

It’s dark and a bit brooding inside. The atmosphere feels pretty hipster. But the staff was great. Friendly, attentive and kept the food and drinks coming quickly without the goofy manager checkin the chains do. I’d come back on the service alone.

That said, we had a ton of appetizers ranging from Dim sum, edamame, and pot stickers. Entrees included the Chinese offerings, sushi and a couple of vegetarian choices.

Saucebox was a great choice for our group and definitely delivered.

Everything was amazing. The brussel sprouts were one of a kind. Great vegetarian dishes. The drinks are imaginative and well priced. I’ll be back.
