Caffe Mingo quite nearly defines what I consider a perfect restaurant: unpretentious, gorgeous atmosphere, impeccable service, delicious wine and great food without getting ripped off.

If you know Italian food, if you have dined at great places in Italy, you will love this place. Even if you don't really know Italian food, but appreciate a great dining experience, you will love this place.

Try the panna cotta for dessert. Ask for wine suggestions and you'll be introduced to something amazing. In the summer try to get a table on the street. Go to Caffe Mingo and have a nice time.

we were recently in portland for 5 nites and heard good things about mingo. we went there the first nite and had an unbelievably excellent meal. the best ceasar salad ever followed by penne pasta in a robust, slightly spicy red sauce with braised beef- each bite we went "yum" and black cod in a aquapazzosauce- a little spicy, tomatoey with small home made pasta in the sauce. great.

so on our last nite, we went back again- had the exact same meal again and it was just as wonderful.

being from new york we are exposed to great food but mingo was superb- not crazy expensive and very casual.

too bad it is 3000 miles away.
