“Must do in Portland”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

One of the best restaurants in Portland with their extensive selection of beers and mixed drinks. Their service was excellent and the food was incredibly delicious. I had their frittata, chacuterie board, grilled asparagus, cheese biscuit with fried chicken and a side of their bacon. For dessert, we shared the bruleed banana panna cotta. My daughter enjoyed the Oregon Orchard mixed drink.

“Wednesday Brunch?!?”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

We didn't believe it until we saw it for ourselves, but Portland is a city that loves brunch. We stopped in at Tasty N' Alder for brunch on Wednesday and were told that there would be a 20-30 min wait. No big deal because they had a nice cocktail menu and full bar at the ready. Two seats opened at the bar and we decided to eat there instead. Our bartender was incredibly nice and made some fantastic cocktails for us that were the right mix of boozy, brunchy and refreshing. We got the Polenta and Sugo and the Bim Bop Bacon N' Eggs. Both were filling, tasty and didn't leave us feeling heavy. One of the best brunches we've had.

“Worth it!”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

This place is a staple in my life, the food is always amazing, staff is friendly and the wait is worth it! Plan on waiting if it's during peak hours, but the bar often has spaces to wait in.

“Persistence Pays Off….”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I was in Portland recently for a the Research Chefs Conference and one of my colleagues told me to make sure that I visit this Portland jewel! We attempted to stop by one evening, but unfortunately there was a 1 1/2 hour wait for a table. Be warned, please make reservations for T n A in advance. We sauntered down the street to a unique little Italian place called Grasso, which I will cover in a review on their Trip Advisor page.
The next night we arrived again sans reservations, but fortunately there was a couple just leaving from dinner at the bar, so we grabbed their seats. The bar is first come, first serve seating.
After reviewing the menu and grilling the bartender on the best things on the menu, my friend and i decided on the Fried Oysters Louis and the Crab Dip for appetizers. We wanted to relax after a long day of seminars, so we waited to order entrees. I ordered a Rum Daisy, one the specialty cocktails on the menu and it was tasty, unique and refreshing. My friend ordered the 12 J Christopher from Adams Vineyard and it was excellent. Our appetizers arrived and the Crab Dip hit the spot, creamy, tangy with all the right notes. The Crab Louis was served as a salad with Crispy Fried Oysters, baby greens and a lively and spicy Louis Sauce. We reveled in our appetizers and adult beverages and conversed with people at the bar. The atmosphere is quite eclectic and the staff and the guests convivial and friendly. After a bit we ordered our main course dishes: Hangar Brandt Prime and Pork Jagerscnitzel and two side dishes Duck Duck Potatoes and Sautéed Nettles. Tasty n Alder takes great pride in the meat items that they serve on the menu. The Hangar was unctuous, perfectly cooked medium rare with robust wine demi sauce and crispy frites to accompany. The Jagerschnitzel was perfectly executed, being cripsy, yet not greasy as sometimes schnitzels can be. The pork was moist and flavorful and all in all a great dish. The Duck Duck Potatoes, were crisp and had a great mouth feel from being fried in duck fat. The nettles were good, but with all other the food that we had, we were only able to take a small taste. We split Ruby's Chocolate Cake which was heavenly, warm and decadent.
If you are in Portland, don't forget to get a little T n A while you are there!
FYI - Chef colleagues of mine went here for Brunch and were equally as complimentary about their experience!

Reviewed March 8, 2014 via mobile

Went here with colleagues after work and loved it. Proper fusion food with top notch ingredients prepared in unusual ways and a variety of local beers on tap. The octopus was a standout. Service was v good and the atmosphere friendly with lots of buzz.
