Our party of 8, ranging in age from 3 to 79, recently ate two nights in a row at Vie. That's how much we enjoyed it -- we immediately repeated the experience.

Service: charming, unobtrusive, considerate, helpful.
Vibe: slurpy jazz, laid back elegance, with a touch of practicality (plastic table clothes don't fit the rest of the decor, but they certainly make service easier for the small staff)
Food: uniformly delicious!
Family dining?: while a better fit for a date night, the chef was willing to work around 3 yr old tastes during our family reunion; it's an easy escape to the river for children who don't want to sit still between courses
Personal highlight: scallops were INCREDIBLE! really just perfect.

I highly recommend.

With gift-certificate in hand, we decided to book a reservation at Vie for my husband's birthday. We had heard that the owner, Beau, is also the chef, server, bartender and everything else a restaurant demands—and oh, is he good at it. On this warm summer Saturday evening there was a server helping out—and he was excellent, charming and very professional. With only five tables inside and about the same outside, a lovely view of the Willamette River and a prime location on the Riverplace Esplanade, it was reminiscent of European riverfront bistros. We started our meal service with a glass each of their house champagne, then on the the three-course prix fixe meal and a bottle of lovely French Pinot Noir. It was all divine and in perfect portions for our tastes. We will return soon, without the benefit of a gift-certificate, to again enjoy the meal, the terrific background music the service, the ambiance and the river front view.

Ordering off the HR menu at 5pm, with nice blended champagne cocktails. Generous portions of roasted garlic, w/bread, and my favorite plate-bread w/ricotta, jam, and fruit.
Also enjoyed gnocchi, onion soup,
rich chocolate cake with good coffee. Eclectic, fun place with style. Gracious owner operator deserves support. Recomended!

Nice little bistro on the waterfront. The menu was a bit limited and no Oregon wine but what we had was well presented and tasty, and the service was efficient and friendly.

Chief cook, bottle washer, server.bartender....Beau is doing them all in this tiny, maybe 12 person, restaurant on the river in Portland.
Tonight we had a 3 course menu: shared roasted brussels, and roasted garlic....both were well done, presented and enjoyable.
The mains of the chicken and the spaghetti carbonara, were a trifle lacking....the carbonara was good, the bacon in it was fabulous...the chicken was a trifle tough.
The desserts of pound cake, freshly prepared and a lemon tart were very good.

The champagne cocktails to start the evening were very good, and "moreish"!. The wine list is all French and does represent good value.

The atmosphere is eclectic and is a reflection of the owner/chef/server/barman: Beau

it was a great evening. He manages the whole affair on HIS OWN, no other staff. He is warm, and pleasant fellow.
It was a wonderful change from the large corporate restaurants one encounters
