“Excellent tour, wonderful guide and perfect weather”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

We had a group of seven friends for a two day tour of Willamette Valley, which was new to all of us. Since we had not visited before, we decided to do a hire a company that knew the area and could handle all the logistics and winery contacts. We chose the right company. Ralph and Peggy put together a wonderful itinerary with one day of progressive appetizers (more sandwiches please) and one day with a lovely lunch at Willakenzie. Our group's favorite was Ayers and second was Anderson. Both small, incredible producers making the kinds of wines that appealed to our group. We also visited two other smaller produers: JK Carriere and Prive both of which are wonderful to visit. We could not have found these wineries on our own or been able to have the access to the winemakers that we did. The two larger wineries were Beaux Freres and Willakenzie. Our guide, John, could not have been more lovely and knowlegable and we hope his daughter had her baby and thay are both fine. Just let Grape Escape know what you want, the types of wines you are interested in and they will handle the rest. It was the best introduction to the Willamette Valley that we could have asked for. Kudos to Grape Escape!

“Terrific day tour of excellent wineries”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

I chose Grape Escape on the recommendation of the Heathman Hotel's concierge, who, as usual, was right on the mark.

For a modest charge per person, GE arranges winery visits (tasting fees included) based on what YOU want to see and taste, provides an expert guide/driver, a clean, comfortable van, a cheese and fruit lunch, and picks up your private group at your hotel. We chose three wineries in close proximity in the Dundee Hills area: Sokol Blosser, Stoller, and Domaine Serene. The first two have gorgeous new tasting rooms with killer views, and DS is located in a beautiful tile and stucco manse with similarly beautiful views.

Pick-up was at 10 AM, and we spent an hour or more at each winery, returning to the hotel at 5 PM. It was a leisurely day. Four wineries probably would have been possible but not really desirable. Excellent wines at each stop, with the seated tasting of six different wines at Domaine Serene being especially memorable. DS is consistently ranked among the top pinot noir producers anywhere.

A bonus: our guide was a retired railroad VP who loves doing wine tours. He was a perfect match for our group. On the way out, he took the scenic route along the Willamette River that passes through hazelnut orchards and beautiful rural farms. A very nice day.

“Leave the Driving to The Great Escape”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Forget maps and searching for wineries....If you are in Portland and want a terrific wine tour, go with The Grape Escape. They have connections with small and large wineries and knowledgeable drivers/guides who know the roads, including those that have no signs! We did a whole day tour. Our guide picked us up from our hotel around 10:00 am and we didn't get back until almost 6:00 pm. We visited 4 wineries.

We wanted to pick some of the wineries to visit which was not a problem at all. They asked us our likes and what we were looking for and then came up with a couple additional wineries to compliment the ones we chose ourselves. They provided us with lunch at one of the stops, which was perfect. We didn't want to spend time at a restaurant.

We were visitors to Portland over the summer for a week. This tour was clearly one of the highlights of our trip! We tasted delicious pinots from the Willamette Valley, drank from Riedel pinot noir glasses and saw the beautiful Portland wine country.
