This place has AMAZING burgers and nobody seems to know about it except those of us who work on Swan Island. I am very picky about burgers and I don't often find a place to rave about, but Tilt is the real deal.

It gets crowded at lunch hour during the week, but pretty much any other time you can walk on in and the place will only have a few people. We went there at 5:30 on a Saturday evening and there were 4 other people there...try that at any other great place in Portland!

Yes, it's on industrial Swan Island but it is fast and easy to get to. A lot of restaurants, and even a few good ones, have crashed and burned on this site due to the location and it's lack of traffic outside of lunches Monday through Friday. If any place can overcome that with great quality and value, it is Tilt.

“Totally in awe- must do”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Ok, Portland has about a zillion burger places. Tell me one that provides a Lamb burger with the traditional slaw, fried onion strings and some spice to complement. So you think you have me, well, does it come on a fresh brioche bun, not the tiny one, the mother of the bun because it must accommodate the provisions within. I think I have you there.. Oh, did I mention it reasonable priced and presented with with a smile.
The menu is marvelous, simple but totally substantial and substitutions do not inhibit these great folks. Fresh sides, homemade tilt tots (round potato balls deep fried) surprised, yes.
Breakfast is all day and I can't wait to try that.
The best of all is that it is on Swan Island industrial park with the flavor of stevedores and all the trappings. A great place that doesn't have condiments on the table, just useless fixtures at this establishment. Do keep the napkins handy.

Great Burgers and fries, by far up there with my favorites. A little out of the way in an industrial area and closes early during the week, but definitely worth the visit. Great pies as well. Highly recommend it to all looking to have a reallt good burger.

“Surprise! A great burger on Swan Island.”
Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

I had a world-class burger and homemade tater-tots in a really unlikely place today. The restaurant is Tilt and it's on Portland's Swan Island. You sit elbow to elbow with longshoreman. This is a serious contender for the best burger in Portland.
