We paid for the deluxe tour with James Merrit and Willamette tours. The wine tasting was good but his knowledge and relationships in the Willamette valley went a long way.

I'm a wine lover and for years my wine-loving friends couldn't stop raving about the Williamette Valley wine country. Finally got there and the wines were - meh. I'm spoiled living in California, home of some of the best, most plentiful and accessible wines on earth; so maybe that's why my wife and I were not impressed with the wine we tasted - and we tried! We went to a bunch of wineries trying to find what all the hubbub was about, and we failed. The area is definitely pretty, but there's a lot of traffic both there and back. Oh, and the people pouring at the wineries were EXTREMELY SNOOTY which was a riot because the wine they were pouring did not deserve it, not by a long shot.

We did a wine tour with James at Willamette Tours. He was excellent! He catered our tour to off the beaten path wineries which is what we like. Our tour included lunch at a great little cafe/bakery.

Willamette Valley is not only a beautiful place to visit, but it has some wonderful pinots too! Our driver took us to three lovely wineries, but Quailhurst Vineyard Estate was by far our favorite...we even joined their wine club. Definitely worth a drive out to Willamette Valley if staying in Portland.
