“Great hotel, great location”
Reviewed August 9, 2011

What a fun place to stay -- bright, funky decor, snacks in the lounge including huge jars of saltwater taffy, kitchenette in our room. Very nice wheelchair accessibility. Plus you get a free day pass on the trolley right outside every day you stay. Great street of shops and restaurants within a block so you may decide not to use it though. We did use the trolley for getting to Powell's books, getting closer to the Rose Garden etc. and just to rest our weary feet and see the town. Really nice, helpful folks at reception desk too. Would definitely look forward to staying here again.

Definitely one of the best parts about our location is the ability to stay close for amazing shopping and food, or hop on the streetcar and check out the rest of the west side of town. And of course the streetcar stops near the MAX in case you want to head out a bit further. We’re glad to hear your stay was so enjoyable and whenever you want to come back we’ll have a room for you!

We had a ground level room with a patio that looked out onto the street. Great place to sit, relax, and down a glass of wine. The flaming tiki torches were a nice touch! Took a nice evening stroll to 23rd street just a couple blocks up. The rooms were bright, cheerful, and extremely clean. Didn't feel like we were sleeping in a old hotel bed. Overall great experience and would stay here again!

Room Tip: Get a room with a patio vs balcony

Little known fact: "friendly" and "accommodating" are our middle names! It’s the "Inn @ Friendly Accommodating Northrup Station." Ok, maybe it isn’t but it could be, and you experienced why :-) So glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. See you next time!

This hotel is in a great location right on the streetcar and they give away free tickets. It has a funky decor and good sized king suites with sofa beds. Our family of four were comfortable in our suite although the sofa was not as comfortable as the bed. We enjoyed the kitchen and outdoor patio(request one). The staff was helpful. They were able to help when we had a mix up and needed to add another night. All in all it was a good place to stay and explore Portland from and it has a breakfast which is a plus.

The Inn is definitely a great place for family stays with our large suites—and we’re also a great place if you have multiple families that all need to stay in one location for a large event or reunion. Thanks for the review and we’re glad you had such a comfortable stay!

This hotel was unique and nice. The jars of candy (salt water taffy and Starbursts) in the lobby were a HUGE hit with our children (all 5 of them) and it made us look forward to returning to our hotel for a sweet snack after exploring beautiful Portland. The room was large and clean and nicely decorated and colorful. I loved having a mini kitchen, complete with dishwasher, sink, fridge, and fully stocked cabinets. I had to clean baby bottles so it was nice to see dish soap on hand as well. The Queen suite fit our family of 7, the air conditioning was nice, the room was clean, the walk-out patio was nice and the kids loved being out there. The only drawback was not having a pool on site for the kids. Location was great... but a bit tucked away for easy travel (lots of stop & go in NW Portland before you get there). We left something in the room and they nicely had it for us when we came back 2 days later to retrieve it. But we were a little surprised by the desk person's reaction when we asked to use the restroom... he was hesitant to let my husband use the main bathroom, almost like we were intruding and not guests anymore so we couldn't really use their facilities. Not the best post-customer service there, but they were very accommodating while we actually stayed 2 nights there. The breakfast was very good, the highlight being the Belgian waffles that you made yourself (fun) and the Tillamook yogurt, which now has 7 new converts it is SERIOUSLY. THAT. GOOD. Tons of fruit, cereal, the works...Thank you Northrup Station also for providing small cartons of milk for my baby! That was so helpful and prevented us from having to go to a store.

Room Tip: The Queen Suite is excellent for large families (we are a family of 7).

Five kids! So you were able to split the cost seven ways, right? ;-) Thank you so much for the (nearly) stellar review of our humble hotel (and candy store) and Oregon’s own Tillamook yogurt. We love to hear the good and even the not-so-good as each review allows us to improve. See you next time!

Sometimes it's hard to find a hotel that really represents the energy of a city. I've often woken up in a faceless, franchise hotel where I can't remember which city I'm in because of the same generic artwork on the walls, same towels, same beds. Not so with the Northrup Station Inn. The decor is exemplary and the conveniences unsurpassed. Rooms are spacious and light, a great way to counteract the often dreary weather of Portland. All the staff that I encountered were beyond helpful. I also loved the location. Literally a hop, skip and a very small jump away from the hotel is the street car stop (free public transporation!). Getting to and from the city/airport/hotel is a breeze.

What a great way of explaining just how important the design of our hotel is to the experience of your stay. Local artists provided us with all of the room art and obviously the rooms and colors are completely unique to us. With so many "what city am I in?" rooms out there it’s definitely nice to stay in one that sticks with you. Thanks so much for your review!

In a lovely area of Portland, close to some great restaurants and a wonderful Co-op grocery store. The hotel is very brightly decorated and bowls of candy seemed everywhere.

The staff were very helpful with directions and suggestions and very personable. Even their IT support were great and quickly helped me get onto their complimentary internet after a failed connection.

Just a really good vibe from everyone there. Definitely will go back.

On my recent stay at Northrup Station I was pleased to find such a good hotel away from the center of town.Though i usually stay by the river, this time I decided to try something new. What a perfect location for dining(21st and 23rd streets) and shopping! The tree lined streets and the vibrant neighborhood, not to mention the streetcar that travels out front of the hotel that takes you all over Portland ,make this a perfect locale. The only downside is the very antiquated internet service and the breakfast choices that get old after two or more night stays. And the bathrooms need to be cleaned in more detail. But the mattresses, the ventilation, the suite size(all suites),the kitchenettes, and the staff are worth the stay.I'll be back.
