My wife and I went to Hala's 10 days after it opened. Hala waited on us and was quite attentive. She gave us both her soup to try (it was delish) and her Baklava (it was good). In general the food is quite good and we are really glad this Lebanese is in this Northwest neighborhood. We like that she only uses chicken breast (rather than dark meat), and her ingredients were quite fresh and savory. She will have a bit of a way to go to get to the level that Karam and Nicjolas are at, but this restaurant is well worth going into - or taking out from. We will go back every time we are in Portland.

After coming home from living in Korea for a year, I drove an hour to this place with a friend because I needed a good Korean food fix. The atmosphere didn't feel at all Korean - nice dishware, tablecloths, etc. Which isn't bad, just not at all authentically Korean. Food was just ok. We ordered Bulgogi, which was a bit dry. The side dishes were alright. Obviously Korean food in America is going to be more expensive than it is in Korea, but still felt a bit overpriced. There was only one other table of people in the restaurant, so our server didn't have a lot he needed to be doing, but he spent most of our meal sitting at another table with his laptop chatting with somebody (the sound was on, so we could hear whenever he received a message). When he learned that I'd just come home from Korea he chatted with us for a few minutes, but only about all the good places in Seoul he likes to party at. There are definitely better, more authentic places in Portland (that have easier parking!).

Found this terrific restaurant in the Northwest Portland area that delighted us both with the personal touch from the owner, to the dishes that showed thought, culture, and culinary skill. We ordered the Han Jung Shik (Prix Fixe) which is a seven course meal paired with wine. On first glance it appears to be more than one can consume, yet the delicacy of each course coupled with the wine was just fabulous. The owner took the time to explain each item, how to eat it correctly, and concerns about the few items that were extra spicy. No rush just a relaxing Korean experience worth the money.
