Great Lebanese food, generous portions for great prices. We especially love the variety in their meat mezza platter; the Shawarma chicken, felafel, and fruity smoothie drinks - but really, everything is great. You also get a giant pita bread served on the wire stand in the middle of your table. Service always prompt and attentive, but for dinner you may want to go a bit on the early side - like 5:30pm - because the place gets packed later. Great for dates as well as families - a nice atmosphere for both.

This tiny spot on Portland's NE quarter has been one of our favorites for many years. It's crowded as hell at lunch, a good indication of quality. No reservations taken. The food is very high quality, served quickly and with no nonsense. Come for the food, not the intimate atmosphere! I always end up bringing at least half my meal home for "the dog" Prices are excellent to!

My husband and I recently visited Portland. I have a friend who lives there and knows I love Ethnic foods. She suggested we go to Nicholas for dinner together on our first night in town. We went to the Nicholas at 3223 NE Broadway Portland, OR 97232 --. It was very near our hotel, the Residence Inn at the Lloyd Center. It was croweded when we arrived, always a good sign for a restaurant. They have a sign-in sheet in the entrance and we sat in the waiting area absorbing the delicious smells and visiting.

There was a large party taking up a good many seats so we had to wait a while. The staff checked in with us a couple of times to let us know they were aware of us waiting. They came to us and said we have a small table which can work for 3 people but it is a little tight, we told them we didn't mind. We had a fun waiter, I wish I could remember his name, he was terrific. The table turned out to be, for me, the best in the house. It was right beside the bread kitched and we could look into the viewing window and watch them making the breads. I got a photo of what turned out to be our flat bread coming out of the oven! Their bread was like a revelation, hot and fabulous!

The Nicholas menu is extensive and everything looked good. We were having trouble choosing. We asked the waiter for suggestions and he asked a few questions about what we liked, then he recommended we get one meat mezza and a lamb kabab. It was a cool evening, so we also ordered mint tea. The Meat Mezza comes with humus, falafel balls, tabouli salad and fresh pita bread
Choose 2 meat items from: triangle lamb pies, kafta or lamb kabab skewer. The lamb Kababs are served on a platter with special flavored rice and a mesculin mixed salad.

The entire meal was a delight! We loved the salads and humus. Their spinach pie is the best I have ever eatten. The lamb was cooked to perfection with a wonderful array of spices. We enjoyed every bite. The mint tea was warming and aromatic. There was so much food for the three of us that we took enough back to the hotel for another meal for two later. Nicholas also gave us samples of their rice pudding to take with our leftovers. I highly recommend getting some to go if you are too full after your meal, it was delicious and had an excellent texture for rice pudding.

And all this this magnificent feast for only $28! We were stunned at the value. Thanks Nicholas for such a fabulous meal. I don't have enough superlatives to say how much we enjoyed it!
