This hotel is located right downtown, near the theater and shopping districts. There's nothing exciting about it, but it is clean and efficient. One warning: do not pay $30/day for valet parking at the hotel. There are many nice garages within a block, including one across the street, that charge $15/day.
We were looking forward to the sushi happy hour at the Dragonfish, the hotel's restaurant, but they only have happy hour prices in the bar, which my 16 year-old couldn't enter. The Dragonfish cafe, JUST ACROSS THE HALL, wouldn't serve us the sushi at happy hour prices, nor would the bar let us buy the sushi to take out. That was annoying.
Otherwise, the Paramount was just fine.

My wife and I recently booked a stay at the Paramount in Portland. We had stayed there before and knew that it had mediocre, but adequate, rooms, and a great location. The location was the reason we booked it. We found that this hotel has been badly neglected.

The chair in our room was threadbare; the carpet was badly worn and soiled; wall covering was pealing off; the grout in the bath was mildewed; the old mattress had a too soft topper on it; the internet would not connect properly; and the staff appeared to have been recently hired and indifferently trained.

We frankly should have been prepared for this, because the Paramount is operated by Coast Hotels and Resorts of Vancouver, British Columbia, which also operates Portland’s landmark Benson. The Benson has been similarly neglected of late, although not as much so as the Paramount. Why these two important hotels have been allowed to go down will have to remain a mystery to those of us unschooled in corporate machinations, but until they are refurbished, the only thing that recommends them is their location.

Thank you for feedback. We have been in fact going through a refurbishment; if you recall from previous stays the rooms have new consoles, televisions, personal refrigerators and all new bedding package. Just this week we have started the process of installing new carpeting in our guestrooms and hallways, all new lounge chairs and ottomans have been ordered along with window sheers. Please feel free to contact us directly to discuss any other issues you may have had with your stay; with our guest’s comments and feedback we are able to improve their experiences.

Staff was very helpful at check in/out; room was perfect, overlooking the new Director's Park. Lots of places to walk to and light rail just a few blocks away. Bed was great, room was quiet. I put my car into valet parking (fierce rainstorm when I arrived) and it was always waiting for me when I requested it. The wi-fi was a bit quirky but worked for the most part. Work out room is in the basement and is isolated. Great central location for exploring Portland.

The Paramount is a truely wonderful experience. I was awed by the service for value ratio. My company doesn't allow a lot for travel and on a mid-range budget this place rocks. Great service ,Wonderfull rooms the only draw back is it's totaly non-smoking for some this is fine I smoke but for the service etc. I don't mind going outside to do it . If I travel to Portland again I will definatly stay here!!!!

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding that was happening nearby. The hotel was in a great location, central to many great downtown spots. The hotel accomodations were average overall. The room was basic along with the bedding. The view that we had was the side of another building so nothing to rave about. Iw ould give this hotel an average rating overall. Not sure that I would stay here again but if you like the basics at a decent price, then this might be an good choice for you.

I stayed for 6 nights and 7 days at this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly. Brady, the door man/concierge was very friendly and informative. The other door guys (i know their names but not right off) take their jobs seriously and professionally.

The beds are the best I've ever slept on, hands down. I did not toss and turn or anything restless; I fell right to sleep.

The room service didn't clean my room! They gave me fresh towels and emptied the trash but they didn't replace the liner and didn't vacuum. This made me a little uncomfortable.

The hotel offered a fitness room. That's it! They had 2 restaurants located in the lobby. My first problem occurred when I wanted to do laundry. I had driven across the US and had accumulated a weeks worth of dirty laundry. The hotel offers a dry cleaning service at a high price but that's it. I had to walk 15 blocks to do laundry!! It was a terrible inconvenience.

I had searched the internet for weeks trying to find a hotel in a central Portland location at a reasonable price. The Paramount Hotel was it. The hotel itself is a cute boutique property with an elegant and tasteful lobby area featuring multiple seating areas for relaxing, meeting and talking with friends. From the friendly doorman, welcoming front desk staff and lovely room, I had an absolutely wonderful experience from beginning to end, and hope to return someday. It's an absolute gem!

As you can see from the pictures, I scored a gorgeous corner room that looks out over Director's Park (great place to people watch with cafe, water fountain in which kids can play, lots of tables and chairs and benches) on one side and the green of Washington Park on the other. The room was as spacious as could be with tasteful furniture, an incredibly comfortable king bed, chair with ottoman, large desk area, flat screen TV, small fridge, coffee maker and FREE Wifi. The spa bath was huge! Large granite bathroom sink area, separate jet tub and glass-enclosed shower. This is what every hotel experience should be like!

The hotel is in a central location within walking distance of many shops, cafes (Starbucks right across the street), restaurants, breweries, bakeries, the Portland Art Museum, Pioneer Courthouse Square and a stop along the MAX Light Rail (right on the next block). The Pearl District is a farther walk, but that area, along with the Willamette River riverwalk area, Portland Saturday Market and World Forestry Center are easily and quickly accessible on the MAX. You can also get off at the World Forestry Center and catch the Washington Park shuttle to the Japanese Garden (there's a trail, but it's about an hour walk between the two). The hotel also has an in-house restaurant and bar, Dragonfish Asian Café. The business center is great to check-in online and print boarding passes.

GREAT location, lovely hotel and great Wifi service. The only downside is the $29 per night fee for the vehicle. If you're planning to stay within the Portland area, then you really don't need a car because of the easy-to-use transport system that's available.
