“Really great choice for downtown!”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Having never been to Portland, we had to depend on reviews online from previous Portland hotel guests. But, I really couldn't be any happier with our choice for the price. We stayed five nights in an Executive Guest room, and we upgraded from the Deluxe Guest room based on another patron's TripAdvisor review. The only thing that disappointed me about the "corner room" the previous reviewer had recommended was that the view from the corner window in this 3rd floor room looked out directly onto the HVAC equipment. It almost didn't even count as a view. However, the main view from the much larger windows looked out onto Director's Park, and that was great. I don't regret choosing the Executive Guest room, though, because of the spacious bathroom. The spa-like jetted tub and large, glass-enclosed separate shower made this one of the best hotel baths I've ever had. It's definitely worth the upgrade. The front desk, valet, and concierge staff were always cheerful and helpful; they also weren't obnoxious about demanding tips for information about how to take the train from the hotel to the airport, as our concierge in San Francisco had been. The rooms were very quiet and comfortable. I only had one minor problem (with a blow dryer), and the staff was very prompt to address it. PARKING TIP: If you plan to use valet to park your car, the hotel charges $29 daily, which is comparable to other hotels downtown. However, the valet staff utilizes the public garage less than one block away for this purpose. If you take your car directly to the parking garage, they charge $15 for overnight use. Of course, there's no "in-and-out" privileges if you do it yourself, but public transportation in Portland is so very efficient that it worked no hardship on us and saved us half the money. I think the garage was called "South Park," and it's between 9th and 10th on Taylor St. We'd definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a park view Executive Guest room--mostly b/c of the bathrooms!

Great location in downtown Portland. Close to shopping, restaurants. Easy to find. We had a room on the 7th floor (double queen) and it was sufficient space for our family of 4 for one night. Slept well and weren't bothered by downtown noise at all. Richly decorated and very elegant lobby. They do have a restaurant (Tasting Eastt) but we didn't eat there as we had other dinner plans. Two blocks away we picked up some lovely flowers to take to the cemetery at a downtown Farmer's Market on Wednesday morning, so that was nice (and cheaper than a florist, too!). I would say this is very well situated for business travelers, but since it is a bit of hassle to get in and out of (you know, downtown parking) casual travelers would be better off in other areas of town with better/easier parking. My one complaint was that our bathroom needed a good deep cleaning of the grout which looked a little dirty. Our room rate was $179 which a lot better than most other hotels in this area. .

I recently stayed at the Paramount for 2 nights for a business meeting. The staff was very friendly and courteous, checkin/out was fairly quick. The location is great as many others have said and the free streetcar stop was only about a 2 block walk. Meeting facilities were comfortable and our catered buffet lunch was good. I enjoyed happy hour at the onsite restaurant which had great martinis and asian apps (fried cauliflower recommended by our server was my favorite). Our room was a fairly typical hotel room (beds were comfy), my one complaint was that the sink and vanity is inside the bathroom and since I was sharing a room with a business colleague, i would have preferred the sink to be outside the toilet/shower section so we could have both been getting ready at the same time. My only other complaint was that there were no bathrooms on the floor where the meeting room was, we had to take the stairs or elevator down 2 levels to use the hotel bathrooms near the fitness center and business center. I found that very odd, but I wouldn't consider this a deterrent from having a future meeting at this hotel. On our last day, we had chartered a bus to take us on a winery tour and we were provided with boxed lunches which I believe were provided by the hotel. Everyone agreed that the sandwiches were inedible (everyone's bread was really hard and dry) and no beverages were provided, so someone really missed on the details. All in all it was fine though.

Thank you for your review and feedback coopmommy! I will be sure to bring the boxed lunches quality to the attention of the catering department. But a winery tour sure sounds like a good way to conclude a couple of days of business meetings.

Right in the main downtown area, smaller classic hotel with nice clean rooms and great staff. Get a corner room with a view. Beats the chains by a mile! Has a good Pan Asian restaurant onsite and is close to the Pearl District with hundreds of restaurant options.

Room Tip: Get a corner for a few dollars more.

This boutique hotel was our home away from home for 2 nights in Portland last week. Although a bit more than I wanted to spend ($216 per night with tax), it was actually worth the money to be so close to the city shops, attractions, restaurants, streetcar and bus line. I requested to be on a high # floor, and was given a room at the top, the 15th floor. The room was immaculate, the beds exquisitely comfortable appointed with comforters and luxury bedding. Our floor only had 10 rooms, including 2 suites and we never heard a door slam or saw a housekeeper the entire time we were there. The hotel manager greeted us warmly and assisted us with detailed bus directions for an early morning trip. We did all of our dining within steps of the hotel lobby and felt very safe wandering the neighborhood in the evening.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the square (same side as the front door) to see the fountain and enjoy the nig...

The team at the hotel are friendly, personable and can't be beat. Jessica at the front desk went well above and beyond to help me out with some after midnight food as my diabetic dad went into low blood sugar. She reached into her own lunch and provided me with some cheese to tide him over while we ran down some more items.

The hotel was close to everything, always clean and quiet. We even found parking in the local parking garage a great option ... $29 for valet is normal but $12 a day in the parking garage for an all day rate could not be beat... nice to have options!

Room Tip: The area is pretty quiet so any room on any level should be fine.
