Great location (but could be a bit noisy)

Review of Paramount Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 13, 2011
We stayed here just for one night on a Saturday evening. It is very conveniently located, so after parking our car in a public parking lot, we were able to walk everywhere from this hotel.

There was a wedding that day, so I am assuming that many of the upper floors were being occupied by guests of that wedding. Therefore, although we requested a quiet room, we were placed on the fourth floor. There was a balcony that looked out to Nordstrom, so it was nice to keep the window open and let some fresh air in once we arrived. The room was clean and of decent size--not small or extremely large. We looked for a safe, but there was none in the room--if this is important to you, you might want to consider calling the hotel to see if there is a room that has a safe (maybe our room just didn't have one) or if the hotel has a safe somewhere. A review I read mentioned about a refrigerator and a coffee maker, but there weren't any in our room. I found that a bit odd, especially not having a coffee maker. That's okay though because Starbucks is just a few steps away from the hotel!

At night, we closed the window but we could hear street noise. It wasn't too loud, but for someone looking for something quieter, perhaps a room higher up will help?

We didn't necessarily feel very welcomed by the front desk when we checked in. There were three ladies and the other two were smiling and had a friendly tone, but the lady who checked us in didn't smile or have a friendly tone. She got the job done and called us when we got into the room to make sure everything was okay, which was nice, but a warmer welcome would be nice!
Date of stay: August 2011
Room Tip: Request a room high up, away from the elevator, facing Nordstrom!

Pumpkin_Cupcakes,
Thank you for your review! We have safety deposit boxes available for your use at the Front Desk. Free of charge. We do have coffee makers and personal refrigerators in all our guestrooms, they are in the in the entertainment centers behind the cabinet doors. We wanted them to be convenient, but hidden from view so you only had to see them when you needed them. Looks like we got them a little too well hidden. Our Balcony rooms are only available up to the 5th floor, so there is a bit of a trade off of having extra space and fresh air, but potentially hearing some street noise. We hope to see you again soon!
Safe travels,
Norm Hwa

We stayed two nights in the Paramount Hotel to conclude our honeymoon trip and we LOVED IT! The Hotel was amazing, the beds were sooooo comfy, the room was sweet, and the staff was friendly, helpful, and just all around AWESOME! Will no doubt be booking rooms at the Paramount next time we are in Portland, and the time after that as well : )

We chose this hotel because it was close to a conference my spouse was attending. Over all it average+. The front desk staff had good customer service. A big plus for me was the decent sized fridge. Bathroom nice. However they did not do the best job cleaning it a couple of the days. Also- I left a note attached with a tip for housekeeping for an extra packet of coffee and blanket. They took the tip, but did not do the stuff on the note. Another day they gave us the extra coffee, but did not take the tip for the day. Odd. Also one day there was a creepy stain on the sheet on the side of the bed...not from us.The bedding was comfortable and our room very quiet. We had a corner room so even with curtains drawn light sort of blazes in around the edges in the morning.

I like the location-very easy to take the train to/from the airport. Near the trolley too. The very Americanized Asian restaurant, Dragon Fish, in the hotel is an abomination (not factored into this review). No matter how hungry or tired you are, avoid. Free business area to print boarding passes was a plus.

Thanks for the review Lynlee. I agree; the housekeeping coffee / tip situation is odd. I will be sure to bring it to our Executive Housekeepers attention to discuss with his staff. Thanks again!

My 12-year old daughter and I stayed three nights at the Paramount in June. We had a executive king corner room facing Taylor with a direct view over Director Park. The room was plenty roomy for two, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was great with an oversized shower separate from the spa-style tub. The staff was friendly and helpful. Since we weren't using our car during the trip I parked across the street at Fox Tower for about 1/2 the price of valet parking. Even though we didn't park with them the valets very nicely offered to unload and load our luggage when we checked in and out. Will definitely return to the Paramount every time we visit Portland.

Right across the street from an Italian Restaurant, an outdoor fountain and courtyard, and a multiscreen movie theatre. Really a nice location.
We had a delux king and really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub, free internet, and great king bed.
The staff were welcoming without being over bearing. There is no where to park, so plan on the valet parking, which is like $25.
We preferred this over the Kimpton a few blocks away, and priced about the same. We did not try their restaurant or bar. It was post STP bike ride and we were tired!

Room tip: delux king room is only slightly more than a regular

This was a great find, convenient to all downtown activities. Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed the hotel and its friendly staff. Rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. Biggest plus is the proximity to shopping (don't miss The Real Mother Goose store - awesome craftsman items), a couple blocks from the Art Museum, a real jewel, and lots of big name stores as well such as Nordstrom's. Downstairs is a good Asian restaurant and fun bar although both were freezing, with loud air conditioning systems although it was raining outside! Staff was very helpful during our stay.

Room tip: Rooms away from the entrance will be quieter.
