The Portland Chinese garden is quite lovely, any time of the year. What was in mid December on a cold day. The persimmon tree was laden with brilliant orange fruit, visible from across the garden. The whole place was quite hushed. A few flowers were still in bloom. And the lovely teahouse, there was a gentleman playing traditional Chinese musical instrument, and we enjoyed some excellent tea and snacks.

This was on the list of things to do in Portland. I visited it under less than ideal conditions - very cold temperatures on a December day. In fact, they did not open until noon to allow the ice to melt naturally. I had a lovely guided tour of the garden. I can imagine that it is quite beautiful in the spring/summer/fall. I would allow about 1.5 hours to visit (if you take the tour). I thought the entrance fee was a little steep at $9.50 per adult. But I think they rely on ticket sales for funding, so it's reasonable.

This is a tiny garden that unless you just want to sit and relax won't take much more than 30 minutes to see in full at a leisurely pace. But it's so completely worth it! Yes, it's $9.50 for adults but for what you get that is good value for money. There is a central pool area, a tea house, lots of rooms that host various special exhibits and beautiful plants everywhere. We have gone here several times and while the garden is at its best outside of Winter, even in Winter its still a great time. Everybody from kids to grand parents loved it.

Every thing in this garden was brought from China, even the huge rocks that form the structure of the garden. I've been to China and seen the same there. It is beautifully and authentically designed and executed.

This is one of my favorite spots in all of Portland. They seem to have some programs going on all the time, my favorite is the New Years celebration. Knowledgeable guides can tell you about the building of the gardens, the flowers, anything you want to know. Stop by the tea house for a snack and one of the many teas they offer. Take a few minutes out of a busy day just to sit and enjoy the tranquility of this wonderful space.
