“Very Enjoyable Stay”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

My parents and I booked the Evermore Guesthouse and stayed in two separate rooms on the third floor. Both rooms were very clean and the prices were great. Since it was a family trip (we were out there to see my brother), we did not mind that there was very little staff because we were very busy. It was actually refreshing because we felt at times like we had this nice, big beautiful house to ourselves. Breakfast was nice and easy. We were able to meet other guests and the camellia's were blooming so it was gorgeous.
The only negative thing I have to say is the first morning I was there I apparently was the last person to take a shower in the whole house at nine a.m. It was very cold, too cold to me. The hot water was out at that time, so my advice is to make sure and take a shower early or at night to avoid this. The staff did address this with us, but I just learned to take one immediately upon waking up instead of waiting until after breakfast and it was fine.

Room Tip: All third floor rooms were lovely and very clean.

My wife and I spent three nights here while visiting relatives. We booked the third floor suite, a huge room with two balconies. The location was very convenient for us, but it's on a busy streetcorner and so you'll get some traffic noise on weekdays. The hosts don't prepare breakfast, but do make muffins etc available in the morning. It's not like there's a shortage of great places to have breakfast in Portland. We felt that we got a great deal for the price and would gladly stay there again.

My hubby and I stumbled across this B&B on a road trip recently and it definitely was a Key Highlight in our trip. Beautiful, beautiful place and I just can't say enough about it. The clawtub bath truly was a welcome after a LONG road trip. I actually Liked the idea of not too much "personnel" hovering over you. They were always just a phone call away.
We will definitely be making this stop again in the future.

The Evermore Guesthouse was the perfect anniversary get-away for my husband and I. We stayed in the third floor suite which had 2 small balconies, a gorgeous bathroom, a lovely sitting area, and comfortable king-size bed. We enjoyed the room so much we hardly wanted to leave to go out to dinner. The house is just absolutely gorgeous with so much charm! We enjoyed walking up and down Hawthorne and Division Street, the location of this place is great. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We loved our stay and look forward to coming back.

The Evermore Guesthouse has a superb location for anyone wanting to stay in southeast Portland. It's in what must have been one of Portland's seigneurial houses--a house with large rooms and open spaces and a broad central staircase. Its chief glory is some remarkable stained glass whose full color and elaborateness only appears when the lighting behind it is switched on. Huge windows on the lower floor were uncurtained (apparently), giving the house a strangely vacant and deserted look at night. The suite we stayed in was spacious and quite comfortable and well appointed--and it was reasonably clean. However, this bed-and-breakfast is a decidedly "do it yourself" operation. We were contacted via email before arrival (and after paying the fee of $110 per night, plus taxes, for our accommodation). We were given a code for opening the front door and full information as to where to find our suite, keys, and so on. No staff were on the premises when we arrived, nor did we catch more than the merest glimpse of any during our two-night stay (a young woman appeared each morning for not more than 10 minutes, said a perfunctory "hello," did a couple of things in the kitchen and elsewhere (such as turning on the back-lighting for the stained glass panels), then disappeared. You are expected to make your own bed, and to make your own breakfast. Abundant supplies and equipment are provided for the latter, but if you expect a B & B to offer, not just accommodation, but a greeting and some degree of warmth, you'll be disappointed here. It's obviously well organized and well managed, but the management keep the lowest profile we've ever seen in the b & b industry.

We were so happy to find a B&B, in this great neighborhood, with large rooms, and king size beds. We had a suite, and could read comfortably on a couch, in front of the fireplace.

House is a lovely, old property that unfortunately smelled musty. Was hit by the smell every time we entered the house. Portland can be damp, but dehumidifers have been invented! Expensive($150/night) for disappointing breakfast offerings.Guests encouraged to do own dishes, but should have dishwasher for insured cleanliness!

Room Tip: Second floor suite looked nice.
