This hotel is right off the I-5, so it is easy to get to and easy to get back on the I-5. The rooms were clean, and reasonably priced. There was free wifi, but it was spotty, so not too helpful. There was a fridge and microwave, but sadly no coffee pot and coffee. This is a no-frills motel.
The beds were very firm. We slept well, with minimal noise even though we were close to I-5, but both adults had achy backs after the extra firm beds.
An aside - there were no grocery stores nearby, and we didn't see any restaurants. It's really only a stop-over en route to where you really want to be.

Thank you for the review Booboo345! It makes us happy to see that you found our hotel to be clean and conveniently located. It is true that we are located just a couple miles off I-5, but did you know that we are also located about 7 minutes from the heart of downtown Portland? We are also only about 3 minutes to the little know Multnomah Villiage! This historic little villiage offers some sweet little dive bars and restaurants, cute diners and cafes to grab breakfast or lunch, and even better, it is one of Portland's best kept secrets! There is also a Fred Meyer and a Safeway within two miles of our location. If you were to upgrade to one of our kitchenette suites, which includes all the standard appliances, then these would be great stops for all your grocery needs. Next time you stay with us we hope you drop by the front desk and ask for concierge service. Our staff is knowledgeable about the what-to-dos around Portland, and would be more than happy to walk you through our guidebook. Mention this review, and maybe we will even let you in on some of Portland biggest secrets!!! Thanks again for your review, and we hope to see you again.

For the money, a decent long term stay.

Positives:
- Customer service
- fresh, hot coffee 24/7
- cheap and functional washing machine/dryer
- very quiet and "dark capable" rooms despite the busy looking location, location.

Negatives:
- Only ONE washer/dryer. This wasn't an enormous problem but there were times I wished I could either do two loads at the same time and not spend a whole afternoon doing two loads of laundry.
- WiFi. BARELY usable... Most of the time, did not work at all and like 99.999% of hotels, their I/T is outsourced and they had no way of fixing it other than rebooting their equipment which worked 10% of the time. Forgive a mini-rant about hotels in general, but it should be illegal to state that you have WiFi when it does not work at acceptable/usable levels.

Also, about 20% of the rooms are not even in range of their WiFi. When I complained at the front desk, I was promptly moved to a new room, but if you require WiFi/Internet, be wary of this and request a room with adequate signal (and then cross your fingers that it actually works - I'd wager that it worked 1 out of 5 days of my 30+ day stay)

All in all though, for the price, it was nice to have a hotel that was close to where I needed to be that had quiet and relatively comfortable rooms.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room near WiFi if you need it. Also, I personally recommend requesting a room...

Yes, it is true we are a very affordable hotel! We have many discounts available and we are glad that you were able to stay with us for such a long period of time. It can definitely be hard to be away from home for that long, so we are glad that you took advantage of our quiet, convenient location and on site laundry. Sorry to hear about your problems with the WIFI. As we have noted to other reviewers, we are currently negotiating a system upgrade with a local internet provider. We are one of the few hotels that offers completely free WIFI service to all rooms, and we want to be able to back up that claim without a hitch. Thank you for the helpful comments, and we hope to see you again soon!

The front of the building looks like it's been recently remodeled. My family and I stayed there twice.... the first time we had to climb the stairs, but the other time we stayed in a room on the other side of the building. It was pretty clean and had free wifi, so I was happy ^_^
It was also close to a Subway, Fred Meyer, and Les Schwab, so we only had to cross the street for dinner :P

Exterior presentable and shows relatively recent renovation. Most if not all rooms require climbing one to two flights of stairs. Our single queen room was small but not crowded with table and chairs for two but no place to hang clothes. Small refrigerator but no way to heat water. Small bar of soap but no shampoo. Free Internet but couldn't log-on at 10:30 pm and enough bandwidth at 8:00 am to check email.

Thank you for the contribution, Ross C! It is true that we do have some stairs at our hotel, but did you know that we are one of the only hotels in Portland that has American's with Disabilities Act approved rooms? If you or a loved one is visiting a hospital or has trouble getting around, then we offer rooms on the ground floor with wheel chair accessible showers, as well as hand rails and wide hallways. Also, if the amenities in your room are not up to par, feel free to come speak to the front desk about what we can do to make your stay more comfortable. Whether you need to make an upgrade to a kitchenette or a suite, or simply need to grab some toothpaste and shampoo from the front desk clerk, our staff is here to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Thanks again for the review Ross, we hope to see you again in 2014!

I booked through Hotels.com for this property because it says they they accept pets with an additional pet fee. Upon arriving at the hotel, I wasn't permitted to check-in because my dogs are over the 10 lb. weight limit.

This weight limit was not communicated to Hotels.com and therefore not communicated to me. It was a recently policy change. Despite the fact that the hotel was responsible for this communications discrepancy, the manager refused to allow us to check-in. He wanted to send us away with a prepaid, non-refundable reservation to find other accommodations. If we hadn't insisted on some remediation, they wouldn't have even helped contact Hotels.com to request the refund.

Oh dear! What a terrible mix-up! We are so sorry to hear that this miscommunication got in the way of you staying with us. We take full responsibility for not communicating clearly with our third party websites, and want to let you know that this type of situation will not be happening in the future. We know how hard it can be to find an affordable, pet-friendly hotel, so we do allow dogs up to 10 lbs. and registered service dogs of any size. Let the pups know that we do feel bad about the snafu. That said, we are happy that you were promptly refunded. We usually do not do refunds that close to check in, but seeing how this miscommunication was on our end, we are happy that the management staff was able to get you your money back. Since you still haven't had the true Aladdin experience, we would love to have you back next time you come through Portland! Thanks for this review, and stop by the Aladdin any time!

I stayed in room 211 and it was a big room with two beds, one being in a separate room. It was clean, but in much needed attention. There was stains on the carpet and ceiling, and the shower was leaking in the wall. The drain took forever to drain the first time using it, but it did get better as it was used. The ceiling appears to be paper thin, as you could hear what was going on above you, and to be honest, I didn't need to be hearing that!. When you walk in, you see a bed and to the left is a table and then the TV. As you walk to the bathroom, to the right, is the separate bedroom. The bathroom is set up as a shower room that has the microwave and the refrigerator and the toilet and sink is in another room. The maintenance man is very nice and goes out of his way to help you. Out of all the rooms I have stayed in at this hotel, this one has to be the best not counting all the issues, nice big room. I stay here due to this is where the Portland VA houses patients.

Room Tip: The wifi is sketchy at best in the handicap rooms.

The location of the motel was the only good part.. OHSU and there are many restaurants in the area.. and it was clean.
The room we were given was right next to the laundry and vending machine and it was very loud.
The TV reception was whacked
The house keeper, or someone, opened our door well before check out and before were were even out of bed.
Bed was hard

Room Tip: Not the room next to the vending machine and laundry

Debra H., we are so glad to hear that you took advantage of our location close to downtown Portland! Oregon Health and Sciences University, as well as many of Portland's college campuses and hospitals are almost within earshot of our Barbur Boulevard location. While we aren't in the heart of downtown, we love to have guests stay who want to enjoy the benefits of the city without all the hustle and bustle. Did you know we had a shuttle service to OHSU as well? We hope you were able to take advantage of that during your stay here.

In response to some of the lesser experiences of our stay with us, we want you to know that are staff is always here to help! Next time you stay with us, please feel free to come down and talk to us about your room. If there are some aspects you find unpleasant, such as being near our on-site laundry, then we would be happy to move you to a better suite or something to your liking. For example, sometimes during the rainy Portland months, the inclement weather can mess with our TV reception, but our on-site maintenance staff are usually on call to help fix such problems. At the Aladdin, we all work together to make your stay as comfortable as we can. Our housekeeping staff, who do keep our rooms very clean, often knock on guest doors near checkout time to see if the guest is staying over or if they need any clean towels, sheets, or shampoo. We do apologize for your morning disturbance, and we are working diligently to find better ways to communicate with our guests about the services they need. Thank you so much for taking the time to contribute this review about our hotel, and we hope to see you again in the future to better your stay at the Aladdin Inn and Suites.
