You should definitely check this place out.

Very moving. Very poignant. Well done.

Too bad people have tried to destroy it.

“Another part of the Portland Rose Garden”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

This small powerful area is amoungst the rose garden, park, playground, and picnic areas. One has to drive a bit to get to it from the Rose Garden; walking is ok too. A beautiful part of Portland.

“A hidden gem in Washington Park”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

We had never visited this memorial, which has been in the park since 2004. We found it very thoughtfully created and a moving tribute. It is laid out to represent a town square like those where Jews were rounded up before being sent to concentration and labor camps. Strewn about are bronze replicas of the sorts of objects lost in the chaos and panic of the brutal deportations--a doll on a bench, eyeglasses, baby shoes, an open suitcase. Engraved on the polished wall at the end of the walkway are a history, quotes, and names of the murdered relatives of Portlanders. Do visit this important memorial.

“Small but very powerful tribute”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

A wall, some very moving documents, and a number of small bronze sculptures recreate the moments of loss--loss of a teddy bear, a violin, glasses, a suitcase. Loss of more than six million people. There is nothing we can ever do to hold this much loss, but the sculptures of the small specific belongings bring home the theme of loss very beautifully.
