Located in the Hawthorne section of SE Portland, who knew that a waffle could be turned into just a delectable treat?
So here's the deal: You order your waffle at a.....yes, window and then you have the option of eating indoors at Bread and Ink Cafe which is around the corner from aforementioned window or at the outdoor seating near said window. We opted to eat indoors at the Cafe at the
The menu is chalk full of creative selections which include but isn't limited to chocolate, bacon, seasonal fruits, berries, custard and whatever other tasty treats the chef can get a hold of. These waffles are then transformed into cooked squares of deliciousness.
I had two seasonal waffles which were the Summer Waves-piled with peaches and lemon pana cotta and more goodness and the Berry Bliss which was a mound of various berries and more creams and goodness. The Blackberry Basil lemonade was sweet and quite tasty. I had the nerve to request syrup and the server told me that I wouldn't need it, she was right. There were so many flavors to take in and more than enough juice if you will, from the berries and creams that the syrup would have gotten in the way.
If my stomach was bigger and I didn't have to walk to take in more sights, I would have ordered at least one more waffle just to taste yet another yummy combination. The wait staff was friendly and I'd encourage anyone to make sure this breakfast spot is on your list of dining places while visiting Portland.

It is definitely hidden but worth finding. We went around 10:30 and it was a small line that moved quickly. We had the bacon, Brie and basil which is delicious. But my fave was the jalapeño bacon it was the right amount of spice, sweet and savory. And the plates are quirky and dining outside in a parking lot adds to the eclectic atmosphere. A definite must in Portland.

If you love waffles you will love the Waffle Window. We went to the Hawthorne Blvd location. You can get pretty much any kind of waffle you can think of. They are delicious. You can take it to go, eat outside at the picnic tables or you can eat inside at the Bread and Ink restaurant that is attached to the Waffle Window. A must if you are visiting Portland.

If you'd had great waffles before think again. This one is great ! I believe they use a traditional European recipe. Out of this world. Geographically speaking It's a bit funky when you first go-- it's actually a window on the side of another restaurant (but you order outside and can sit inside the restaurant...) sort of weird at first but once you taste the waffle it won't matter. In nice weather there is also outside seating. This is a busy neighborhood: it can be challenging to find parking. Yet totally worth circling for awhile 'til you find a spot... and taste the waffle ! smile !
