Owner description: Portland Center Stage at The Armory is the largest theater company in Portland that produces fully professional theatrical production for the community, and is one of the 20 largest regional theater companies in the United States. There are two theaters located inside The Armory: the 590-seat U.S. Bank Main Stage and the 190-seat Ellyn Bye Studio. Established in 1988 as an offshoot of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the company became independent in 1994. An estimated 150,000 visitors attend The Armory annually to enjoy a mix of classical, contemporary and world premiere productions, along with the annual JAW: A Playwrights Festival, and a variety of high quality education and community programs. Eleven productions are offered each season, in addition to roughly 400 community events. The Armory was the first building on the National Register of Historic Places — and the first performing arts venue in the country — to achieve a LEED Platinum rating.

This theater in the heart of the Pearl is worth a look just to see how an armory was converted into a way hip theater. They do excellent plays there--go to one!

If your visiting Portland this is the place to go for a nice evening out to catch a play or performance. All the spaces have great sound and seating. Its a really cool space, great art and concession in the lobby. I've been for Comedy, Theater, Music and lectures, enjoyed them all.

We've been season ticket holders at Portland Center Stage for 20 years, and we love the Gerding Theater at the armory. Both theaters are excellent venues for plays, and I love the fact that the restrooms are plentiful!

Great theater with fun productions. It is small enough that there are no bad seats. The lower level has a small studio theater with no reserved seats for more trendy and risky productions. Love the old, old building that they have modernized just enough to make it comfy and still feel old. They have a small cafe and offer spirits.

Excellent plays. Small theaters with no bad seats. We like the spur of the moment discount tickets on sale the last hour before the play.
