Dropping in on the Gerding Theater at the Armory is well worth a few minutes when you are strolling through Portland's Pearl District. It's a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the traffic and crowds in this popular urban shopping and dining district. This fantastic renovation of an 1891 armory building has created a cool and edgy space inside the historic structure that's well worth a peek inside. Plus, the Armory Cafe offers a nice selection of snacks, coffee and refreshments so you can spend some time enjoying this neat space. Step inside, look around, get a snack and take a break for a few minutes.
Best of all is that this is the home of Portland Center Stage, Portland's leading professional theater company. They produce a fantastic array of high-quality theater, ranging from major production in the Gerding, to cutting edge work in the smaller Ellen bye Studio Theater. Be sure to stop by the information kiosk in the lobby to check out their upcoming productions. We've not been disappointed. A perfect day of shopping and dining in the Pearl can even include catching a matinee or evening performance.
