“Stunningly Underwhelming”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

The a Pearl District represents everything that is wrong with Portland.
Expensive, overblown, over rated and terribly pretentious. There is nothing in this area which cannot be found elsewhere in the city for considerably less money.

Tourists should note that the area immediately adjacent to this area is very "marginal" especially at night. This is an area full of porn stores, street missions and the like. If you appear to be from out of town, you may be aggressively solicited by street people.

“Touristy & borgeouis.”

I didn't quite get what the point was. I suppose the reputation hinges on waiting in line for overpriced restaurants, or overpaying for clothing. There's far more scenic parts of Portland to spend your money.

“Great experience.”

Good shopping, people watching, lots of eateries. We were there St. Patty's Day so enjoyed seeing lots of people in costumes and celebrating. Glad I made Pearl District a stop during my short visit to Portland.

“Overhyped and usually "dead" at night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

Pearl district epitomizes many things that are wrong with Portland. It's an exclusive part of town for wealthy people who live in expensive condo-blocks, drive expensive cars and eat in fancy restaurants. Along the way they are also driving up the property and rent prices and are making the city unaffordable for many people. There are some nice restaurants around there, the whole area is new and clean but it's utterly devoid of life. This is not where the "scene" is in Portland. If you are looking for real Portland scene (music, food, bars, coffee, youth culture and progressive views) you need to go across the river to Belmont, Hawthorne and Division areas.

“Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

I love visiting it and it has great, unique shops mixed in about popular yet hard to find company stores which makes it even more of a draw for shopping. It is rather spread out so if you are visiting from out of town it is most concentrated around 11th &12th street, closer to the mainstreet Burnside. It can go rather deep so it's not the easiest to get around, a car helps if you want to see more of it as the local shops are spread out throughout and again, not just in one couple block radius, they are all over. It is worth visiting but you should go in knowing what to look for or it can be disappointing. The local restaurants spread out throughout are on the most part great and some amazing...ask a local what you are after and you will have better luck finding what you are after...it is like finding the hidden pearl...he he Worth it when you do.
