You will get to experience Chinatown, parks, bookstores, restaurants and cafes, boutiques, and you will be close to the river and open air markets. If you are interested in seeing all walks of life and a part of the neighborhood undergoing a change--then this is the place. Do not be put off by the panhandlers and the "tattooed" young vagrants--just take it in as it is part of Portland. We throughly enjoyed our walks over the three days we stayed in the Pearl district. We can experience suburbia and shopping malls anywhere and the Pearl district is NOT that!
