“Great walkability, eclectic, and stimulating”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

You will get to experience Chinatown, parks, bookstores, restaurants and cafes, boutiques, and you will be close to the river and open air markets. If you are interested in seeing all walks of life and a part of the neighborhood undergoing a change--then this is the place. Do not be put off by the panhandlers and the "tattooed" young vagrants--just take it in as it is part of Portland. We throughly enjoyed our walks over the three days we stayed in the Pearl district. We can experience suburbia and shopping malls anywhere and the Pearl district is NOT that!

“Worth a look”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

When reading past reviews we almost did not go because of previous comments about aggressive panhandlers. We encountered none during our 2 hours in the area. Powell's bookstore is an amazing place. It was interesting to see the shops and many restaurants in the area. Portland is a city loved by it's residents and it shows! We felt it had a European flavor to it with many people enjoying the outdoor cafes and green spaces.

“Good for a little while”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

be careful, this place can be really neat and fun, with great shops and lots of character. But it's surrounded and engulfed by Portland's homeless population during the day and shop owners have "no sitting and no public restrooms" plastered on their storefronts, which takes away from the appeal

“Lots to see”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

This area has undergone a complete metamorphosis. Total "Moth to Butterfly". Lots of great restaurants, shops and galleries. We always take a walk through the Pearl. Start on NW 23rd and end up in the Pearl. The free streetcar is the way top do it.
