“It was "OK"”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

We were looking for a last minute reservation in the downtown area. The weather was great and we did not want to cook. I hopped on Open Table and searched for a table for 4, at around 7pm. We had passed by The Original a few times and always wanted to try it. It looked fun. To my surprise, they had a table at 7 pm.
Well, when we go there, I realized why they had room for us. The place was almost empty on a Friday night at 7 pm. Not a good sign.
The menu is all over the place. From Donut Burger Sliders and Greek Salads, to Beef Stroganoff and Fish Tacos. We had trouble deciding only because we could not wrap pour pallets around one particular concept.
We decided on burgers because they appear to be the only universal constant.
Our kids had the "Dog of the Day", which sounded good until it arrived. A hot dog wrapped in a hamburger, presented in a hot dog bun. It was overcooked and just plain weird. (They do offer a kids menu, but it lacks any imagination)
The Deluxe Burger was good, and so was the Veggie Burger.
The staff is very friendly and the decor is bright and fun. Prices are not inexpensive considering this is a "Dinerant". We left owing nearly $60 for the four of us and that did not include any appetizers, liquor, or desserts.
I wish them luck, but I think the Original may be short lived unless a few things change.

“Really average.”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Sometimes we travel and the first impressions count. Portland is a great city with amazing and lovely people. This restaurant is not up to what Portland can deliver for you, so take it easy. It really reminded me of some British poor standard of service often found back home.
I had to go to this restaurant to use the food vouchers provided by the hotel I was staying, the Courtyard Marriott.
For such a fast food menu someone would think they it wouldn't take much to cook, average wait has been 30 minutes, this also happened to my colleagues. As I'm lactose intolerant I need extra precautions but service was relatively poor. They even brought be food with butter in it, in two occasions after a week of visiting. Cheese is made of milk isn't it? Well it doesn't seem some of them know.. The waiters seem to be thinking about something else when they take the orders, they are not well trained and probably under stress for some reasons. They don't miss smiling but they get distracted easily. Typical situation when someone have to ask a decaf two times in 15 minutes before being served a cup. They apologised and I said not to worry but this must be noticed. The management should take it into consideration and understand that they have much bigger potential to deliver and they are failing. It is not the fault of the guys, it is the fault of poor training.
If you are in the hotel for a long stay, try to change menu often and have breakfast somewhere else. Good for your health and good for you exploring Portland which has much better to offer than this restaurant.

“Open & airy restaurant with great food!”
Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is next door to the Courtyard Marriott but doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant. Not sure if they are affiliated, but food is fabulous and service is great. Big windows all the way around. Great bar area was busy Friday night. Wonderful food choices. We only had breakfast there but other menus look great as well. Loved how they use local products like Stumptown coffee. Even their ketchup is made in Portland! Worth a visit!

“Breakfast +++”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Breakfast was awesome! Not a lot of choices on the menu, but was excellent and a lot of food. We wanted to come back for dinner but didn't get the chance. Full bar and a nice atmosphere looks like it would be a good dinner spot also
