We were looking for a last minute reservation in the downtown area. The weather was great and we did not want to cook. I hopped on Open Table and searched for a table for 4, at around 7pm. We had passed by The Original a few times and always wanted to try it. It looked fun. To my surprise, they had a table at 7 pm.
Well, when we go there, I realized why they had room for us. The place was almost empty on a Friday night at 7 pm. Not a good sign.
The menu is all over the place. From Donut Burger Sliders and Greek Salads, to Beef Stroganoff and Fish Tacos. We had trouble deciding only because we could not wrap pour pallets around one particular concept.
We decided on burgers because they appear to be the only universal constant.
Our kids had the "Dog of the Day", which sounded good until it arrived. A hot dog wrapped in a hamburger, presented in a hot dog bun. It was overcooked and just plain weird. (They do offer a kids menu, but it lacks any imagination)
The Deluxe Burger was good, and so was the Veggie Burger.
The staff is very friendly and the decor is bright and fun. Prices are not inexpensive considering this is a "Dinerant". We left owing nearly $60 for the four of us and that did not include any appetizers, liquor, or desserts.
I wish them luck, but I think the Original may be short lived unless a few things change.
