This was our first trip as a family (I went as a child)...the price is not bad for a family of four...though the food selections are not great and extremely over priced. Make sure you buy your zoo key at the gift shop because for 4.99 you get the key as well as a zoo lanyard...or but a lanyard at the dollar store and the key when you buy your tickets then the total cost is just $3.50...the train is a bit overpriced. The train use to go other places but $20 for a family of four is steep for a 20 minute ride...I suggest if you can pack a lunch or snacks. You can get re-entry stamps so if you want to leave and eat then go back you can but I don't recommend it.

Plan to walk a lot and where steps can be a challenge for strollers. Most animals/birds are visible day or night. We went to the Zoolights event held around the holidays where cool, often animated, lights show seals leaping, inchworms inching and gorillas being gorillas. We go every year with grandkids. Food there is pretty basic, but good and fast. Gift shop is worth a stop, too. Take your camera and keep an eye out for the cute baby elephant, Lilly.

Thoughtfully laid out and pleasant surroundings. Nice Gift shop with all price ranges for souvenirs. I'm a sucker for train rides. Food options in varying price ranges in a few different locations. Not as good as San Diego Zoo, for ex., so couldn't give a 5.

I have been going to this zoo since the mid 70's & I never seem to get bored. There is so much to do so plan on spending the entire day there. You can ride the train around the park. Sit in this grassy area & watch experts fly birds over your head. Take the kids down to the petting area of the sheep. I love going over to aviary and buying these cups of sweet nectar and the birds come drink it out of your hands.
