It is amazing, unfortunately they are being renovated and there are some parts close for visitors, but my girlfriend and I had a great time there.

Amazing use of available space. Not a huge amount of animals, but some VERY interesting ones. Some we had never seen before. Worth the trip.

Went with family of 7 on a busy Sunday. Ages ranged from late 60's to 2 years.
Parking lots were full but shuttle service was convenient, and parking free.
Rented a mobility scooter for $25 for family member with bad knees. Difficult to navigate scooter in crowds.
Missed all bear exhibits. None were out.
New flamingos exhibit was crowded.
Elephant exhibit was crowded as was expected to see baby Lily.
Both petting exhibits were closed.
Giraffe was not outside.
Loikeet exhibit was fun. Bird's landed on my daughter and ate nectar from her cup.
Chimpanzees were not outside, and inside was very crowded.
Overall, it was a good visit, and worth the admission of $11.50.

My Son & I love coming here to see all the animals. The park is rather large so not only do we get to see animals we get to get outdoors and walk and exercise a little it's nice. There are some areas where you can see the animals up close. This is a fun place to take the kids and it is conveniently located right off the freeway.

Went to the Oregon Zoo to take pictures of some of the animals they have on hand. I was surprised to learn that admission is only $11.50, which seems like a bargain for a major attraction these days.

The parking lot was full, so we had to park in a remote lot and use their shuttle service, which was a fleet of school buses. The upside to this is that the $4.00 parking fee was avoided.

It's not a large zoo, and it was possible for us to see, literally, every exhibit inside of a few hours. The animals all seemed to be active which, being a photographer, I was glad to see.

On the positive side of this review, the Oregon Zoo is a nice, small zoo where you can see everything in a day.

On the negative side of this review, though, are a couple of things.

First, the pathways are ridiculously narrow. As single family can (and did) take up the entire pathway. Traffic jams were frequent and severe.

Many of the exhibits are indoors, or seen from under cover. This only exacerbates the "narrow pathway" problem, as the available space inside these exhibits is at an even greater premium. There should be a rule which stipulates that strollers and carriages should be left outside. Some people there yesterday had strollers the size of Volkswagens, and weren't even using them for their kids, but for souvenirs. People could, literally, not even turn around to leave the exhibits because they were blocked by strollers.

Apparently, there's some promotion going on where people make a donation and get a plastic pink flamingo. These flamingos are then placed throughout the zoo along the tragically narrow pathways. I'm sure that this is a promotion that's supporting something important and worthwhile, but the pink plastic flamingos make the zoo look cheap and run down.

I'm going to give the zoo another chance on a weekday, when the kids are in school and people are at work. I figure this should cut down on the traffic jams and strollers.

The Oregon Zoo could be a great zoo, but I think it's a ways from being that without some reassessment and investment in making it so.
