Very well planned layout with scenic views and the animals close to each other. You're not walking a mile to see one thing at a time. The new exhibits get better and better. Our favorite thing is the polar bear exhibit.

I always love going in winter on a rainy day because it cuts down on the crowds of strollers and small children, and their often obnoxious parents. I go to see the animals, not kids.

We really enjoy going to the zoo in Portland. When we moved here years ago, we were severely disappointed with the sad old zoo. But each year they have opened a new and interesting habitat for a variety of animals. The new exhibits are not cages, but rather something as close to wild as possible. The zoo is big enough to be worth a day of adventure, but not so big that you have to rush through to see it all in a day.

Between Thanksgiving and new year the zoo is decorated with lots of lights. Well worth seeing. Dress warmly!

It's huge, it's easy to navigate, it's good to it's critters, does great work in the animal/habitat conservancy world. Don't miss it. Bring your own lunch/snacks - stuff there is high-priced and low-quality (though the elephant ears aren't half bad!)
The Zoo Lights in December are amazing.

Thank gallst
