“Nice park up from Hawthorne neighbourhood”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

Nice park a short distance from the Hawthorne neighbourhood. We stopped in after some shopping to let the kids spend some energy on the playground. Many benches to ponder the world and do some people watching. The Friends of the park have created a brochure that lets you identify the different trees in the park if you have a green thumb.

This is a beautiful park, we were there during a hot spell and this was a lovely escape into the cool of the shade. We were staying in the neighbourhood and went both in the morning and the evening - great walk to the top for some exercise and wonderful view when you get there. Lovely and quiet but enough joggers and hikers to engage in some people watching.

“A quiet place for a scenic morning walk”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

I came across this park by accident while in Portland for the first time. A friend I was visiting lives in this area. I walked up this park early on a Monday morning a few weeks ago, exercising my dog for an hour before my friend was ready for the day. It was just past 6am when we started our walk.

The street to the top was still gated shut, but we climbed up the stairs from the west end and hiked up to the top, walked around, and came down the same set of stairs. Several old buildings are now public restrooms. There are paved roads and gravel trails around this park. We took in vistas of Portland in several tree clearings, and watched the early morning sun shine its first golden rays on the tall trees near the peak. People were already jogging, dog walking and cycling around this old volcano. I even used a mutt mitt after my dog did her business on the drew-moistened grass.

It was a simple, yet unexpected pleasure, and a scenic way to get an overview of Portland.

“A very nice park”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

This is a very good park for just about everybody. There are good views of Portland, great hiking/running trails. There's areas for kids to place.

The downside, however, also exist. Parking is a problem, even during the middle of the week. Because of this, people park Illegally.

There are always a few folks that don't keep the dogs on a lease, even though there is a dedicated off-lease areas provided.

“Great park for hiking, jogging, and city views”
Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

This park has great views of the city and is very forested with huge, beautiful trees. Lots of people having picnics, running, dog walking or just strolling and admiring the views and forest.
