“Miles of Trails”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Until last week, when I thought of the Hoyt Arboretum, I thought of the well labeled trees and shrubs that line the Oregon Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I did not know about the miles of trails that Portlanders should take pride that they support this marvelous natural oasis within a few miles of downtown. One caveat, the self-guided map was hard to follow although the compass on our cell phones helped. We were looking for the bamboo collection via the yew and spruce collections but only found it by asking a passerby walking his dog. Turned out that there were only a few sprigs left of what had been the bamboo collection but there is an amazing fir at the bottom of the creek trail whose root pattern is straight out of the Hobbit or the Forbidden Forest in the Harry Potter stories.

“Conifer and Evergreen lovers must see this!”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

A incredible worldwide collection of conifers and evergreens, in really big sizes! Tons of broadleaved trees to, but I did not even get to see them that day, because I was enjoying myself walking the forest like surroundings and slopes with the evergreens!

“Another beautiful Portland park”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

I visited the Arboretum with a company picnic and loved the wooden shelters and nearby bathroom facilities. While there could be more parking on a sunny afternoon, there are a variety of options scattered throughout the area.

“A great afternoon hike!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Our family hiked for hours in the Arboretum over pretty wooded trails that meandered through woodlands. The trails are not difficult, and even our 6YO was happy to wander.

“Wedding Meadow”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

My cousin's wedding over the weekend was beautiful at wedding meadow. It is a gravel/dirt path with some small hills. If having a wedding there elderly will not easily make it and it is very important you convey to guests that flat shoes are best. However once you are there.. it is as beautiful as it could ever be....just amazing setting.
