Like most of the places I visited in Portland, the Saturday Market was a haven for the local homeless. It's located in an unsavory part of town, and the smell is reflective of this. It's fairly large in the amount of vendors, but the types of goods being sold are redundant. A lot of mediocre art, some good too. A lot of food vendors, that we didn't try. It was ok to look around, but I've been to better and bigger swap-meets. If I were to compare it to say... Orange County Marketplace, the Saturday Market would get a D.

We took a quick spin around the market, and regret that we did not allocate more time for this. There were many snack/ food carts, and we managed to catch a quick bite. There are many shops selling clothes, art pieces that we did not have time to look in detail, but there were certainly interesting pieces. We also came across a old man rock man performing half naked.

Not my first time going to the market, and certainly won't be my last. Lots of vendors with a variety of goods, plenty of tasty food carts, and musicians and street performers playing for your spare change. It's an experience, with something for everyone. Not for people who dislike crowds, because it gets packed. Combine this with a walk down the waterfront for a wonderful Portland afternoon.

maybey the neatest thing I did in portland .so much weirdness, but isn't that what portland is about .lots of sights smells and things for sale. entertainment on every corner. so big like the whole area changes into a huge outdoor shopping center . centered around skidmoore fountain.

We spent an hour or so at the Saturday morning Portland Farmers Market near the Portland State campus. It was an easy walk from our downtown hotel. There was a huge number of vendors with a great variety of products. In late July, the selection of berries (must have have been a dozen different kinds) was particularly impressive. There were also a number of vendors cooking at the market and we ended up having some tasty breakfast burritos for our morning meal. It is very popular so I'd recommend getting there when the market opens for the best selection and smaller crowds.
