I was really excited to learn that I was going on a field trip to pittock mention. But when I got there I suddenly realized there was no peacocks around and the house had none in it. Instantly dissapointed.

A visit to the Pittock is must for Portland visitors! It was built in the early 1900's by a newpaper baron. Each room is furnished with early 1900 furniture. The chidrens' rooms are especially attractive. Separate male sitting room from women's sitting room. From the grounds you have a view of downtown Portland.

If you go to the Zoo then you should certainly stop by this piece of Portland history. The Pittock Mansion has an interesting story to tell and the grounds are wonderfully landscaped. Best of all there is a gorgeous view of almost all of Portland. Bring a picnic or book and enjoy the afternoon.

We enjoyed our tour of the mansion. It is very nicely restored with period furniture. Check out the modern touches for this time period. On a clear day you can see Mt. Hood. We enjoyed hiking on one of the adjacent trails into the forested area.

Great old mansion that is integral to Portland's history. Hard to believe that it was going to be torn down if the city had not rescued it. Props to the city government.
